fuel pump
G'day,
Gee whiz I'm not sure which way to go next ! I've replaced the water temp sensor which speaks to ECU and this worked for while / drove great, goes well etc. and then old problem raised its head again - it seems to run with no power like the fuel is shut off to a number of cylinders and like a switch is clicked it just starts running smooth again - wot can it be ?
the ECU
the dizzy igniton module - or coil
earth leakage
the air flow metre
87 3.5 efi - auto
any body had the same symptoms ?
fuel pump
Righto check pump ! I grabed a pair of vice grips clamp the return line and turned on the ignition, bang blow a line of the injector within seconds, I think the pump is fine any other ideas !!
Intermittent fuel pump failure. Of course it has to be OK some of the time to run at all. It's when it stops you get your power loss. Could also be dodgy connectors in the fuel pump wiring, this is a common problem. I've replaced a fair few pumps on those, it's just a common or garden variety of pump same as that fitted to VN onwards Commodores.
Are the VN onwards Commodore pumps a straight swap? Wires/plugs need to be modified? We just had to get our 89 towed home with a suspected dead pump and/or faulty regulator, I went straight to Rimmerbros and they are $158 for a OEM but a Aeroflow VN pump on eBay is only $50.
Will check things properly over the weekend but would be good to know prior to any purchases.
