Can a gvm upgrade be done on a classic rangie? (Lse)
Just had the engineer on the phone, he was just about to order my mod plate, then noticed the weight of the vehicle, 2520! Gvm is 2720. So I have to shed 270kg. So bars come off, spare wheel out (standard wheels would be handy right about now), rack comes off, spare batteries out etc.....
Isuzu 4bd1t, msa gearbox, sals rear diff, 33's, front and rear Arb bars, 3 optima batteries, full length roofrack, body lift, koni raid 90's, recaro front seats, led light bar. That's all the mods at time of weigh in. Oh and half a tank of fuel.
It is an lse though so weighs a little more than a classic.
First call to one of melbournes finest land rover specialist, "that'll cost 10's of thousands of dollars, call our engineer", so they didn't say it couldn't be done😆
What sals? 130/HD 110, or normal 110 then find axle rating for the one you have. Front AFAIK is same as other Defenders, so take that axle rating. If I search around I have those ratings.
Then suspension springs, assuming what you have used has restore your ride height to normal, or a bit higher, then what is the issue there?
Lastly rating of wheels and tyres.
I would think those considerations should justify an increase in GVM from your engineer, IIRC 110 Defenders have a GVM of somewhere around 3050kg, or am I completely off track?
Edit: I assume the GVM in your 1st post came from the VIN plate, but I just had a quick look through some of my junk and found the following on page 259 of a 2006 rangie user manual showing GVM 3050kg (from memory same as many 110 Defenders).
Not sure what sals, will check the number on it. Springs and shocks have all been done (220p front, 270p rear, koni heavy track raid 90 landcruiser shocks), but the chassis is not as tall as the 110 chassis. I'll shed the weight to get it signed so I can rego it, but will still want to sort it out
