Looking through this thread it seems to me you have taken on a herculean task. All that brown rot you found.........it would completely demoralize me. And then there is the 'home maintenance' you have encountered.........

Don't be too scared of the rust in that passenger floor, it's only an hour or so, spread over a few days, to get rid of it.Quote:

I removed the old bull bar today... It was harder than I thought it would be - I will be replacing the rusty 4 x nuts/bolts with new ones in due course..
Looks better again... :angel: :wasntme:

I removed all of the carpet from the rear and gave it a quick vacuum:

Next job - sand off the surface rust in the passenger foot well. Before/After Sanding/Primer:

My current plan is -
* Sand back any surface rust on the inside of the car.
* Clean all metal surfaces
* Etch prime any metal that is left bare.
* Paint the floor / side walls with sound deadening paint
* Install Dynamat

Are you using a rust converter before you prime the rusted areas?
If not the rust is gonna come back, you have to kill the rust, it is not killed by sanding or wire brushing. Go to bunnings and get some rust buster, brush it on and wait 24hrs then wipe off with a wet cloth, let dry, then paint.
Except for the few spots you repaired it doesn't look too bad, nice example of an early rangie.
Might have to sell my 77 soon to raise funds to fix my bloody disco :-(

So Gav came over today and I asked him to take Max for a drive (as I have never driver another Rangie, and wasn't sure what was normal and what wasn't)...
Gav can probably explain better, but his thoughts were:
* Very solid body
* Very straight
* Quite original
* Tie Rod ends need replacement - steering is a little off
* Wiring is a disaster.. The previous owner has basically added a lot of extras (most of which don't work)
* Sits well
* Very little surface rust
* Clutch is on it's last legs
* Drives well
* Very quiet (even without any interior)
* Gearbox was fine
* "It's got a Cassette Player in it!"
* Some surface rust (I'll fix that)
* Lot's of cosmetic work
Overall a very tidy, original car - apart from the wiring...
I'm pretty happy with that....
Now that Roger is finished (see other thread)...
