Ok, so I've found the website I was talking about... I apologise, they all blend into one late at night.....
So, check out this site....they have what I was referring too, and what you may or may not want....
Scroll down, you'll see the letters with pins.
    Sorry for confusion..... Meet Max

    Hi All,

So - a fairly big weekend working on the 2 door... Where to start?

Removed all of (what's left of) the interior door trim & handles - both doors.

Finished sanding off the stripes & glue from the rubber protection strip on the passenger side:

Next - remove the rear bumper bar...

I also removed the pin stripes and lettering that was painted on the rear tailgate. I went further and sanded back to bare metal and found the original holes for the correct lettering (they had been filled in with bog):

That gave me an idea - surely the holes for the front bonnet are also there? Unfortunately NO - there are no holes on the front bonnet, which makes me think that it has been replaced at a later date with a newer bonnet.

However - I had an idea... I can use the holes on the tailgate, to make a template on the front.. (I had already contacted Famous Four, and Powerful UK, and RangeRover.net - but nobody seems to have a template for a 2 door).

Anyway - I certainly have not drilled any holes yet, the above was basically a proof of concept.

I also removed the front bumper and front bumper supports.

I have a spare rear bumper - so I am going to send of all 3 (2 rear, 1 front) to the sand blaster and then work with what's best:

    Front bumper support brackets:

I had to grind the screws off - to remove the number plate holder... I will sand & paint the number plate holder.

Q: What colour should the number plate holder be - if the bumpers are grey? I assume still black?

Sanded back the tow hooks and number plate holder brackets:

Removed the mud flaps and fuel tank filler.

    Removed the tailgate:

Removed both rear sliding windows - which was a bit of a mission removing those fancy little clips... I have sourced new clips - at $7.50 pounds each - ouch, I will try and sand/clean the old ones thanks.
Here are the 2 rear sliding windows:

After a few hours of scraping, cleaning & polishing:

On the spare rear bumper there is a rubber strip (I believe that the bumper is a later one) and the rubber strip is a good idea as it will prevent water getting onto the bottom of the tailgate.
The rubber strip is held on with these weird little clips... Any idea where I can get these? (3 of the clips are missing)

    Removed the C-Pillars:

Some of the wiring that has been "altered" by the previous owner:

The plan is to remove this scrap - I think that the previous owner had a CB, front spot lights, front electric windows, and an electric brake controller... I am never going to tow with this - so I am thinking of removing all of this wiring.. And when I say I am going to remove it... I'm going to get somebody to help me remove it! It's been rather butchered.

Removed the grab handles, sun visors and rear section of the head lining:

Oh and these arrived earlier in the week:

    What's next?

    * Send the 3 x bumpers off to the sand blaster
    * Try and remove the rear windows - I'm really stuck on these
    * Try and remove the interior mirror - and then the front head liner.
    * Order parts...
    * Paint some small items
    * Electrical
    * I have already ordered the carpet kit
    * Send the seats away to be re-upholstered

    Cheers,
    GG.

Pretty sure those 'tow points' are really just tie down points.

    cheers, DL

That was my assumption too given they way they are bolted on (angle down like your pulling to car down onto a trailer/truck). You certainly wouldn't tow from them!

Thanks lads - could you show me a pic of how your down points are installed? I removed mine a few years ago when I removed the bumper bar, and can’t remember the exact fitmemt...

    Hi All,

Just to clarify - I wasn't sure what to call them - tow points, tie points, etc.. And I used the term "tow points" because I stumbled across this web-page when looking for a picture of them..

    316 S/S Towing Eyes & Fixings A4-80 - YRM Metal Solutions

They refer to them as "towing eyes"... Agreed though - I wouldn't tow with them.. I'm just trying to find a pic of how they are fitted (eg - I assume they go through the bottom bolt on the front bumper support, pointing downards on say a 45 degree angle, on the outside?)

    Cheers,
    GG.

I only mentioned it because someone pointed this out yonks ago on this forum.

Pretty sure my original 74 2 door set up didn't have them, but the donor '81 body's chassis sure did

I put them on the 74 chassis when I did the 'colour change' based on where they were on the 81 chassis.

Front bumper support correct from memory, rear is on the chassis on one side down towards the diff. A through bolt hole hanging underneath the chassis with supporting flange both sides.

    They were diagonally opposed.

Don't tow with them, or be towed.

    DL

    Last night's work

    Hi All,

I spent a few hours in the shed last night - trying to keep the project going... I figure even if I do one small thing a night, it all eventually adds up..

This is a metal strip that is pop-riveted onto the tailgate, holding down a rubber strip between the tailgate and the floor:

    And cleaned-up:

This is one off one of the sliding windows:

Here is the sliding window guide cleaned, plus the tie down points, plus the brackets from the number plate holder, plus one of the bumper supports:

I have had a good look at the upper rear tailgate - it only has surface rust. I looked at removing some of the screws that hold on the brackets (I soaked with WD40 for a few days) but they aren't going to budge.. Last night I thought to myself "I will run a few layers of paint on the glass around the frame, to stop any potential damage while I sand it back.." In the end though I just taped up the entire glass section - you can never be too careful and I will leave the tape on when I paint it. I started sanding back the surface rust and paint last night:

    That's it for today...

    Cheers,
    GG.

    Small Update

    Hi All,

I dropped off my 2 x rear bumpers, and 1 x front bumper to the sand blaster the other day.. And picked them up the next - blasted & primed. $60 per bumper (including the rear metal caps):

Here is the first coat of silver - I had been experimenting with different silvers (I think that I tried 5 in total). I'm very happy with the one that I went with:

So when the weather permits - I will be painting the front bumper, rear bumper, end caps, and 5 x wheels all in the silver.

Oh and I have purchased a Gazebo/Tent combination to make as a temporary spray booth - but more of that later when it arrives..

    Cheers,
    GG.
