Then there's the influence of 'good' design vs 'fashionable' design, or, You Get what You Pay for, usually.
In theory, as soon as you start using refraction, you get dispersion, but the amount of dispersion involved with the angles of refraction used in headlights woould be pretty small - and as the images from the different sections of the lens are overlapping, probably are irrelevant anyway.

In both cases, there will be refractive or reflective errors on the cusps of the flutes, but I can't see why these would be greater on one than the other.

And I agree, to a large extent, you get what you pay for - but be aware that some of what you are paying for may well be fashion! (and make sure that you are getting headlights designed for driving on the left, especially if buying on line!)

... Yes, and does Australia have any Territories that drive on the opposite side to us ?

    If not, why does this :- ( Pages 39 - 41 )

contain both Left and Right hand beam patterns ? - Each-way bet or a sinister prediction that we're going to swap sides ... ???

No, simply that the ADRs are made to be the same as those in other countries by the simple process of incorporating a UN document that is used by many other countries. As it says in the preamble (in a lot more words).

Interesting to compare the situation with when I first got my licence. At that time the description of required and allowed lighting occupied a single paragraph! Now 259 pages.

I have installed the Wipac Crystal Halogen Headlamps in my 95 defender.
Vast improvement over the standard, even using the original bulbs.

The other 2% made it home.

That's great value with globes included. I have the more traditional Wipac's and they are great. Would buy them again. Relays all round.

I've still got the OEM luminaires, a wiring kit, wiping INside the assemblies with micro-cloth to remove the "boil-off" and + ??% globes made them as good as I need.

I'm now accustomed to the strange high-beam pattern..

First thing I did to the RRC after purchasing was replace the headlamps. used the heavy duty Hella H4 reflectors and a pair of 110/90 globes, 40A SSR's and high current cabling. difference is literally night and day.
