Auto Trans - Oh Bugger, Woe is me

Well after 6 months of fart arsing around, it transpires that the reverse clutches on my LSE/TD5/ZF4HP24 are giving up the ghost.

Costed a re-manufactured Ashcroft replacement (yes, I know they were on give-away price special a few months ago pre the recent GST/import duty changes) - about $AU5K landed, and in the same order of magnitude for a local rebuild initial assesment.

Apparently I need a full rebuild if I want reliability for future towing duties etc.

Looks like I'll have to un-retire for the 4th time to raise some shekels.

Oh well, maybe I'll splash out for an auto trans cooler upgrade and keep working for another year.

QUESTION - As an aside, if my trans has a TCM, does that automatically make it an electronic version - sounds right to my untutored brain.
I'm still waiting to connect my partially fitted lockup unit from wholesale automatics in Vic.

    Bugger

I guess from the diagnosis that you've made the trip to the boys in balcatta. If so they would be able to advise what box you have fitted. Normally I' say electronic but given Bessie is a hybrid maybe not or there is a third party controller fitted.

    Good luck!

    Cheers

Great minds think alike - we won't mention the latter part of that saying.
Woke up this morning and thought - I haven't asked Cameron. About to contact him, he is the guru after all.

My fix for all slugomatic problems ..................... Is to tear them out and fit a proper manual gearbox

I'm expecting to have this issue in the near future ... it appears you only need a disco wreck with a proper gearbox and your set

    Hi Gavin

I'm literally 5 mins walk away from Cameron. So if he only needs it for an hour or so give us a call and we can do a coffee. There's a good cafe on the corner of the building I work in, on balcatta road opposite pickles.

That said I'm only in town till next weekend when I ship out to Africa for 3 weeks.

    Cheers

    Steve
