Both I've had here had the base idle screwed down tight ... bottomed right out.
Get it warm and open up the base idle screw until you have about 800rpm (well that seemed a good speed to me) .... What will happen now is when hot you'll get a good solid idle, but it will roar away like buggery all the time as the stepper will take about 5+seconds (dependent on how cold the engine is) to drag the idle back down.
Petrol corrects its idle more quickly than LPG. It must adjust the mixture as well as stepper. Works well with a manual gearbox if you can put up with roaring for a short time until the stepper does it's magic. With an a slugomatic it'll strain against the pump and possibly not correct enough (at least that's what I found).
