93 Rangie fuel or electrics or both.

    Hi

Brother has a 93 Rangie 3.9. It's a nice truck however has developed an issue with not starting. It winds over but no kick. I went and check fuel pressure and just dribbled out and also no noise from pump. The batt was near dead so I jumped it and nothing. I checked fuses and then relay under passenger seat. There where three one with blue connector. Changed that and it fired up and ran. However when left to run or put it in gear. It will stall. Also his battery seems to die quickly so what you think? Or where should we start with the checks

    Cheers dan

EFI cars won't run with no altnerator and flat battery. Charge the battery overnight so it'll run, then check the voltage with it running. If it's not > 13volts, you need to fix the alternator before going any further

It has two batts in it but they don't hold charge at all. Small batts too.

2 stuffed batteries will get you nowhere Put one known good battery in and see if it runs. I'm betting the alternator is dead!

If the dash globe is blown ... The exciter is then disconnected to the alternator, so it won't charge!

Does the altnerator light come on with the ignition on, but motor not running ?

Get yourself one of these, or something like it. A clamp meter for DIRECT CURRENT (amperage). - Not just AC...

Looks like the one I bought years ago, and proved its worth many times over.
Measuring 'voltage' is useful, but the ability to also read current-flow by clamping around the wire(s) is 'gold'.

If you'd prefer a 'brand name' such as FLUKE, you can still get something that won't break the bank... for example:-

You've got a Range Rover...which is shorthand for 'many and varied electrical faults housed in a moving container on wheels'.

Ok so fuel line was blocked a filter so got fuel to engine now. Got battery to 14v. It kicked and turned over but now won't start as it stalled.
