Have both styles here and can have a look on the weekend, but I think the shape of the A pillar where the hinges mount are a different shape between the two.
Do the hinges/ bolt locations line up the same if I were to take the doors from a 90 - 93 and put them on an 84 - 87? Apart from the panels which I would also swap do the doors fit? Any gotcha's?

On a better look, they are very different. Earlier model has hinges mounted to the rear side of the A pillar, later concealed hinge models are mounted to the outside of the pillar. Pillar profile is different. Hinge mounting pattern on the doors themselves also appear to be different.
Thanks Rick, much appreciated!

IMHO, exposed hinges look more...'authentic' on a Classic.![]()
On a similar note: The exposed hinge bonnets are much more functional as you can fold the bonnet back onto the roof allowing more room to work in the engine bay.
Something you cant do on the concealed hinge models.
You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
All it comes down to is there was a clean 1990 for sale, and I wish to replace bonnet and front quarters on my 86, and maybe doors, as well as some other big pieces which makes me just want to buy a whole car. Will just wait until one comes along for sale...
