    $39k Softdash on Carsales

Well I knew the classics were getting collectable but this beats even recent 2 door prices.

1994 Land Rover Range Rover Vogue SE Auto 4WD

Kms are extremely low and the car looks in excellent nick but pictured service history is just log book stamps with some big gaps and last stamp almost 8 years ago.

I think his asking price is just a tad optimistic. What do others reckon?

    Cheers

Wow, that's the best and cleanest RRC I've seen since they were sitting in the showroom floor. Yes, maybe a tad optimistic with the price, but I'd imagine they are testing the waters a bit to see what interest they get.

Cars are worth what someone is willing to pay, so who knows? I doubt you'd find a better example, but it's more than 4 times what I would pay.

I reckon old Mate is off his chops. It's got two many doors and no carbs, but hey if someone wants to pay that price good for them.

Yep Andy. A lotto win could easily see it in my garage or a nicely restored 2 door..... Then I could extend the garage as well

Gut feel says that if everything stacked up then low $20s would be fair. It's obviously been owned by an enthusiast as they have changed the rims and bumpers to those from the 1995 classic edition and some of the veneers inside are non standard, but tasteful. Pity about the aftermarket stereo, it would be nice to have to original cassette and cd stacker.

And given the lack of use I'd be putting some money aside for a major service and being prepared to replace a lot of rubber items and seals.

    Cheers

You just have to wonder where people pull for sale figures out from...

I think we can make a fairly accurate estimate about where this one came from

I hope he gets what he is asking for. We all reckon a good RRC is great, we look at prices in UK and say wow, then when someone asks good money for what looks to be a pretty hard to find unit, we say he is dreaming? 95k there can't be many like that. The Sherwood had 395K on it.

This is the exact same discussion that has been had on MB forums about foreign car markets.

The bottom line is, they are not relevant to local market prices. What drives price here is the local supply & demand.

Sure, it has less than 100K. I've also seen a lot of faked sub-100K resprayed and tarted up cars in my time too.

I'm not saying that is what this car is, but there is a tipping point. Asking 35K is all well and good. Ask yourself though, realistically, will you get that for a model that is not especially rare, or has a limited run - like the sherwood.

mileage is not everything - condition counts for more, and service history is not always worth the paper it's written on, unless you can verify that the 'servicing' carried out was meticulous.

And while some like log books with factory dealer stamps in monotonous routine, I find the attention to detail from independent specialists who actually care about the service they offer and the work they do (reputation) can count for a great deal more.

In this example, the price disparity is enough to warrant question. It's not a particularly rare model, or an unusual colour, nor does it have any unique or extraordinarily special options. All it has going for it is a log book with stamps, and a low speedo reading.

If it were an LSE or a Sherwood, with the same low mileage and service history that could be verified on inspection, then I would be more inclined to agree with the somewhat elevated asking price. But as it stands, I think he's about 12-15K off target.

I'd be thinking that if he wants his 35K, then he should send it to the UK, where the market forces are more aligned with the figure they are desiring.
