That's interesting about the load leveller. I guess that bloke up in QLD is not doing them any longer?
Roads?.. Where we're going, we don't need roads...

WW shock in QLD still do the Boge refurb - last week they quoted $440incl. I like the idea of keeping it but can be guided on the reality. I also like the idea of keeping the spring rates on the soft side and using airbags in the rear when towing with heavier ball weights (not every day).
I've been quoted on Bilsteins and springs with 200lb front 390mm and 230lb rear 420mm both of which are higher rates than standard which I thought was 133lb F and 160lb R. The 'wofting' feel of these go well with the current pace that Major Schnell is capable of... and cornering lean angles without sway bars are hilarious when seen through the reaction of on coming motorists!
I saw at the start of your post from 2016 you were doing up your 3.5 - how did it work out?
I managed to regass my boge.... it "sort of" worked. I didn't like it at all when towing a big caravan. the back of the car rolled around to much on the suspension (it felt to pivot around the leveler). Air bogs are way better IMO![]()

It goes well. Keeps up with traffic can cruise at all legal speeds. Maybe not ideal if towing heavy loads up hills but otherwise. Re ride etc I've got Bilsteins and front sway bar plus Famous Four springs. For what I'd consider normal day to day stuff seems a very good ride/handling steering set up. Not harsh not scary to drive. Probably not as good ultimately off road but I'm not taking this car those places. Re the Boge unit that's interesting that they can be rebuilt. After having a Boge for years then going to a D1 where we fitted polyairs I think the polyairs were a better solution for 90% of daily driving. Again maybe not ultimate for extreme off-roading but are you doing that?
I'm not planning any serious off road. I'd like a little more grunt... it's very slow after my Golf R with its flash BUT thats not the point. I bought it almost because it is leisurely - I think the factory ride albeit very tired now is great. I'll modernise it a bit but only for road manners and safety. I've really noticed driving it in Sydney how absolutely manic people are in the traffic. I've had several people get upset and how leisurely it is only to end up next to the at the next light... and then the next. I like what Rollingstock are doing in the US - keep it simple, get it level, some reasonable tyres to fill the guards and a frontrunner rack. I feel very lucky to have found a sound starting point.
Offroad should be fine with bags .... just let them down if your worried about articulation![]()

When i had my 81RRC i saw a bloke that fitted a coil spring into the boge unit, apparently it worked well. I ditched mine when i fitted kings progressive rate coils after fitting twin LPG tanks and twin sill fuel tanks.
