Thread: P76 Engine Replacement in '85 RRC

The 4.6 will be only slightly harder to fit than the 3.9 as you need to fit a camshaft with a dissy drive. The one in the P76 will suit if it is in good condition. For both engines you will need a flywheel (the one on a P76 is modified, you may be able to machine a spacer to refit it to a Rover engine) and an inlet manifold suitable for a Holley. The 4.6 will also need your sump and timing cover fitted, late 3.9s also have a different timing cover to the early ones (93 and before). You also need a spacer in the front of the crank pulley as the crank nose is slightly longer. An old timing chain cog can be trimmed to do this job.

Also don't forget to get a clutch spigot bush to suit the Rover engine. None of this is particularly difficult.

You can't have the one in my P76, but my brother-in-law has a few lying around. Do you just need a block with a rotating assembly? or do you need a complete engine?

I'm probably going to need a complete engine... With the exception of the starter motor, all the Rover accessories listed above are fine. However, I'm living remotely in the NT, so probably better to get more than I need up-front and work my way backwards from there with the old donk sitting along-side the replacement..
