P76 Engine Replacement in '85 RRC

    Hi,
I posted in here a couple of months ago when the P76 engine in my 1985 RRC blew up. Have been umming and ahhing about what to do for a replacement engine, and it looks like either a 4.6L RR engine or a D1 3.9L are likely to be a lot easier to find than a P76.. So, I need some advice on which of these would be easier to drop into my old RRC?
BTW the P76 engine had hard chrome valves, gas flowed heads and manifold, and a 350 Holley. It ran on LPG most of its life. It also had the Rover oil pump, sump, Rocker covers, water pump, distributor, and adaptor brackets for power steering, alternator, and air con compressor..
Oh, and my RRC has 5-speed manual transmission.
    Cheers,
    Angus

The 4.6 will be only slightly harder to fit than the 3.9 as you need to fit a camshaft with a dissy drive. The one in the P76 will suit if it is in good condition. For both engines you will need a flywheel (the one on a P76 is modified, you may be able to machine a spacer to refit it to a Rover engine) and an inlet manifold suitable for a Holley. The 4.6 will also need your sump and timing cover fitted, late 3.9s also have a different timing cover to the early ones (93 and before). You also need a spacer in the front of the crank pulley as the crank nose is slightly longer. An old timing chain cog can be trimmed to do this job.

Also don't forget to get a clutch spigot bush to suit the Rover engine. None of this is particularly difficult.

I may have a suitable modified inlet manifold if you need one, send me a pm if you're interested in it.

If you are still looking for a P76 engine I might be able to help out.

You can't have the one in my P76, but my brother-in-law has a few lying around. Do you just need a block with a rotating assembly? or do you need a complete engine?

    Cheers FisherX,
I'm probably going to need a complete engine... With the exception of the starter motor, all the Rover accessories listed above are fine. However, I'm living remotely in the NT, so probably better to get more than I need up-front and work my way backwards from there with the old donk sitting along-side the replacement..
    Cheers,
