Find myself busy on the forum this week due to latest bit of fun with exploding radiator fan which suddenly shed a piece with three blades, chopping thru the bottom hose and embedded itself in the plastic radiator cowling.
This on the big hill above Bangalow. Coolant everywhere, road now painted green. Happened to be carrying a spare hose and managed to get the viscous coupling off with multigrips and hammer. Half filled from washer bottle and nursed into town. Engine unbelievably smooth without viscous coupling and fan. No probs driving home without fan on country roads and short stops at lights.
So got to thinking maybe an electric fan would be the better replacement and cheaper than new coupling, new fan and new cowling..
Has anyone done an electric fan conversion or know of a kit with sensor etc eg. Davies Craig?

A 6 cylinder EA-EB-ED fan assembly should just screw on your vee belt engine, hopefully you can get one cheap locally. Even new EA fan blades on ebay aren't very dear anymore:

That's what I've got, and it works well, except I had to make a shroud to fit, and the fan-to-underbonnet clearance is really tight. I once had EL Falcon thermo fans and now I'm going to get two Spals because this viscous fan is too noisy and overcools at anything under 30C.
At any given point in time, somewhere in the world someone is working on a Land-Rover.

SubscriberA 300Tdi Disco fan and VC works on a 3.9 RRC with a small trim of the tips of the blades.
The blades are glass filled so if broken will not fly apart.
I broke 2 blades in a creek on the Telegraph track and all that happened was the radiator got a shine.( although I think I was lucky)
I was able to cut the blades off and opposite ones and continue to Cooktown where I had a new set waiting.
The white blade explosion has been known for many years and it was Graeme Cooper who alerted to the 300Tdi and actually gave me a set.

White Blade Explosion... - does that cause White Knuckles on Steering Wheel ?
Best thing I ever did with my HZ Holden V8, dump the OEM and a pair of D/Craig fans. Only ever came on during long(er) traffic lights on hot WA days, and the extra get-up-and-go-sans noise was most welcome.
Reckoned it was worth over 1 mpg, maybe 2.
(was a very long time ago...)

Thanks gents for all your suggestions.
I managed to fit a steel fan I got years ago as a replacement for Jag XJ6 "white" fan but never got round to fitting. Had to remove insulation matting from under the bonnet as the blades protrude about two inches above the top of the radiator! Will do until I get some electric fans which sound the go.
