No. It will reduce bulk, but if you're going to dump drawers on it, then you will need some additional protection on top of the foil.
@mercguy, nice info, thanks!
No intention to thread steal...
I know this is the rrc part of the forum but instead of starting a new thread I thought I'd just chime in. I was considering removing the carpet (which has a very thick rubber layer underneath) from my P38 and replacing it with dynamat or something like it. The main reason for doing so would be a weight consideration. It is in the rear of the vehicle only where I would have my drawer system.
Do you think it would have any effect to save weight?
Cheers,
-P

If you're going to put a drawer system on top, then I'd just look at using upside down carpet tiles.
Mind you I've never seen the rear load floor of a p38 and dunno if it's flat or ribbed, so not sure if it'd be any good.

During the saga of replacing my carpets I have taken to fitting a dynamat style sheet to the floors and bulk head. The reasoning for this is the original rubber mats had thinned out and fell apart when I removed them and I needed a little more quiet after driving the D4 constantly. It is distressing going from overthinking while driving to not being able to hear ones self think!
The rubber mats that came with the carpets from Stewart, the one thing I did keep that fitted right, were not going to be thick enough so I glued some sound matting to the underside. This combined with the dynamat and even without carpet has made a significant difference to the in cab sound.
I have enough to line to whole car, but I will stop at the roof and just have the roof lining done properly, rather than my shoddy home job with a reused original, bar the foam.
The doors will be the next place to get it, but will only complete once the door has been given a once over with new seals and services window gear. Still looking for new beltline seals.
