    Range Rover Classic Engine Conversion

    Hi All,

I have a 1993 Range Rover Classic 3.9L V8 Auto and I am thinking about changing the engine over to a late model (2010 or so) Commodore 3.6L V6 engine which will help increase torque, power, fuel economy and make replacing engine parts easier here within Aus,

I am just wondering if anyone has one or has seen it done?

I have found engine swap kits on Marks 4WD & Dellows so it must be able to be done I just can't find any info on it!

Also has anyone done a conversion with someone here in Melbourne? I would love some recommendations as I am aware the conversions need to be bang on!

What? Why would you? The gains and losses are just not worth the cost and effort. Why not a 4.6 RV8.

I doubt you will find anyone doing that modification.

Les Richmond does some great engine conversions.

He might be able to tell you what would work.

V8 & six speed out of a RRS or Disco 3 would be cool.
    Cheers

You might also consider fitting a Ford Barra (4.0IL6)engine. Better Kw & kN than the Holden motor. I believe that there are adapters available.

Because I intend to travel around Aus in this car and want to make it as easy and cheap as possible for me to replace parts when I'm in the middle of nowhere!

I'll have a chat to them, I have seen their insane Rangie with an LS3 in there!

Thanks Collins I hadn't come across this engine yet, it does look like it could be a better option,
I'll have a look into it!

Ford Barras are available as brand new crate engines on eBay. The turbocharged version would be good. If you are contemplating touring and want decent parts availability, I'm not sure Holden is the answer. Another six months and there will not be a Holden dealership in rural Australia. Have you contemplated going diesel and using the engine out of an Isuzu D-Max?

Be aware that unless you are going to do almost all of the work yourself you are up for at least $20k for a decent engine swap.

If you are serious about doing a swap it would be worth signing up to a bunch of groups on Facebook - Land Rover engine conversions, Land Rover Hybrid & Modified Owners, HMLR (Heavily Modified LR). There are also plenty of sites for Cummins and BMW diesel engine swaps. The diesel out of the BMW X5 is a popular one.

RV8 parts are relatively easy to find. It will be harder to find parts for a bastardised vehicle.
