    Conversion - Viscous Coupling to LT230

    Has anyone done this conversion from a BW Viscous Coupling to a late model LT230 with CDL for a later version RRC, and if so, did you have to modify the centre console timber veneer to cater for the different lever?

    I'm thinking ahead to renovate the veneer, and wondering if I will need to modify the panel or at worst get a replacement blank and then do the cutouts?

    Yes you will need to cutout the center console (not simple to do neatly) if you wish to use the diff lock. You will also need the LT230, diff lock/tcase linkages (often not included as they are worth money due to disco II owners wanting them) and the front prop shaft (that is shorter)

    Just find a Disco 1 and wreck it .... they are often very cheap (that way you will end up with spare everything that isnt' interior plastics).

    I'm not sure you'd need to change the console on a soft dash? I have the interior stripped out of my LSE and the interior stripped out of a 98 D1 donor at Dad's, I can do some measurements if you want mate, unless someone here has already done it to a soft dash.

    Sarah is getting the ZF and LT230 from that D1 soon, I thought about putting the LSEs BW in Sarah instead but not worth the effort for an unknown.

    Yes please to measurements kind sir. I'm also contemplating a trip in the softdash LSE to talk/pester you in Bunbury riding on 4 individually pumped airbags (which hold their air for at least 2 weeks with no loss so far). Will PM you with more discussion when I can arrange.

    To avoid having to modify the console to fit the diff lock lever, why don't you use an actuator on the diff lock, so you only need a switch inside. There are pneumatic ram kits that use the engine vacuum to actuate the ram.
