    RRC Classic EAS Question

    Background
I'm still working through rewiring various bits of my LSE after the guy trying to find an EAS glitch disconnected any number of wires, replaced some with white coloured wiring, then had the temerity to have a stroke and leave this mortal coil.

I've always had a problem with the EAS working properly and not always talking to the D2 ECU bits after the TD5 being fitted.

As an interim step, I've recently fitted 4 air pressure gauges under the bonnet to monitor the airbags. The EAS pump is disconnected and I'm currently pressuring each bag individually to about standard height/approx 45 psi or a bit more.

After fitting the gauges, all was good for a few days while the car then sat in the garage.

However, after having a replacement ABS pump and accumulator fitted by Rovertech (no blame being attached here, and thanks Kevin and Geoff) the LH front airbag has gone down - but the air in it must have transferred to the front right as the pressure in the RH bag has almost doubled. Plus, when I try to re-inflate the LH front bag - no air getting through - weird!

I'm about to go back and recheck all air connections for the LH front, but not expecting to find a leak/disconnect.

Question - is there some kind of when parked, or when running, interconnection (possibly one way only) between the 2 front airbags, or am I just losing my few remaining marbles?

No mystery here. When the LH bag goes down, the pressure in the RH bag will double as it is now the only one holding up the front end. No interconnection required.

Nup - missing the question I think/hope. If the LH bag goes down, surely the air must "escape" somewhere. Can't see how it would transfer to the RH bag and increase pressure.

    Hi Gavin,
I think you misunderstand my answer.
You are absolutely right, the LH bag deflating cannot inflate the RH to any pressure greater that itself, so the air must be escaping to the atmosphere.
If the air in the left airbag disappears to the outside say, and the right airbag is still sealed, the weight of the car is now sitting on the right airbag only.
The pressure increase is caused by the whole front end now weighing down on one bag only rather than being held up by two.
    Cheers

Excellent - agree that the right air bag is theoretically holding up the front, although in reality there is still pressure (mass) pressing down on the empty left bag and the car tilts. My maths is not good enuff to do the equations, so will concentrate on finding the leak/s

    UPDATE.
My question is still in the ether, BUT it is a leak in the actual air pressure gauge (no, not in the thread or the lines) that was causing the droop.
    New gauge tomorrow.
