    I vote yes.
I bought a new Adwest box about 10 years ago when the brits had them for $800 for my 91. They changed the bottom bearing from a bush to roller bearing half way through 91? model but physically they are the same AFAIK.

There was no talk about different boxes as long as the Pitman arm is the same.

I think threads would have changed from unified to metric over that time which may be a problem with power steering hose connections.
    cheers,

Thanks guys all points taken on. Mine has power steering. I’m not sure if the one at the wreckers is 3 or 4 bolt will have to check. Out of interest there asking 200 you remove, I thought it seemed a fair price. Have read a couple of posts and it seems a fairly easy job would I be right in thinking that? Few bolts couple of hammers to wack the ball joint off and bobs your uncle 🙏
    Thanks again

After posting I had a rethink and AFAIK as long as the unions are the same thread etc , the 4 bolt also should fit.

BTW the main problem with these earlier boxes is that the bottom bearing wears and allows high pressure oil to get past the lower seal. I have been successful on an 81 of replacing the babbit bearing . However you need a parallel hone to get the fit correct for the output shaft. I fitted it with a brake cylinder hone and about 8 hours. The top seal is dead easy and I have fixed one in situ on my 91.

Dougal had an easy way of doing the lower bearing, either on here, Pirate or the defunct OuterLimits.

Dougal found these adaptors available to deal with (any) thread mismatch issues with the hoses (3 bolt to 4 bolt) which needed minor mods.

Seems like a million years ago, but I changed my '79's 3 bolt box to a Disco 4 bolt.
That would have been early 90's and I don't recall needing to mod any hoses.

3 bolt box in my RRC was horrendously leaky. Paid big $'s to reco it back in the day .. only for it to start leaking again not long after any warranty expired.
I just put it down to either crap materials/seals/engineering ... and once the 4 bolt box went in .. no problems for many klms and years going forward.

You always remember the bad experiences, and hardly any of the good(or easy) ones .. maybe the hoses needed modding, if so, probably an easy fix anyhow.

Drop arm was hard to remove tho. Dad had a mighty strong 3 armed puller tool. Had to be changed as the '79 had the ball joint in it, the replacement Disco box had the holed drop arm where the drag link had the ball joint in it. Again easy work around.

So just keep this in mind, if the '76's drop arm hasn't been modded with a later type tie rod end setup. If you get a 4 bolt box from a wrecker, you may also want the drag link.
    Arthur.

All these discos are giving me a heart attack!
