I have the remains of a 96 V8 manual D1 that had 4 th gear problems, not sure what condition the bits you need are in, but I drove it it home skipping 4 th quite happily. If you want to come and pull out what you want you are welcome to it.
    Cheers,

    I feel for you Shane.

Not sure if you can get the 300M version or not, but Ashcroft used to also sell an "upgraded"....

bet it's pricey though with exchange rate and shipping etc.

    Locally made might be cheaper.

    cheers

I contacted someone my kids went to school with about 5years ago who is into landrovers. He's now in maryborough ... so a a nice afternoon drive and I got to wonder around his toys... a forward control, some 2As and plenty of discos.

he had an R380 and LT230 there that I purchased. I don't like buying stuff from cars you can't drive ... to test ... but what choice do you have. and the gears seemed to select on the R380 ... and the lt230 seemed to work. They aren't super filthy so possibly haven't been to the moon and back yet

I just dropped them apart. A perfect output spline (phew!!!). and the LT230 has a cross drilled input gear If the gearbox is ok (you can't tell without fitting). This should get me mobile again ... until I break the next thing Could you imagine being a boring person that drove modern cars that just work ,,, There sure is some strange poeple out there. I guess they need to buy them new so I can drive them as ****boxes 20years down the track though

The LT230 has a sensor bolted in where the speedo cable should go ... fingers crossed I can remove that and put a cable in there!

I just brought a ZF4HP 22 and LT 230 ( plus it came with an engine) if i get bored or dislike changing gears/lT95 I might fit auto. Would be a nicer drive ....

How on earth do mechanics make any money. Last night I was thinking "only the bell housing bolts need to come out and the gearbox is out.... I should have it running mid-afternoon today......."

    Sigh...

I just feel like I endlessly go in circles. After stripping off the linkages and breathers to check the output splines.... It was still a thing to line up, even on the floor ... with guide pins... (trying to chock the gearbox up into the right angle and position etc ...).

Then the splines didn't want to engage .... So I chucked the main box into gear and turned the input shaft ............ This is just so much my luck with stuff .... I've gotta post it up here for you guys to enjoy.

I noticed this when I was turning the input shaft to line up the splines ..... What do you reckon .... maybe, this might be a "slight" problem ?

So then I moved onto "just" unbolting the bell housing bolts .... Yeah so after disconnecting the clutch slave, the transmission cooler lines .... and finding the jack didn't reach the gearbox.... and having to make a small platform to go under the jack (with transmission bracket attached) ..... I've basically achieved nothing today .... on the bright side, I "only have the bell housing bolts to go and I can drop the old transmission out ".

Looks like it was stored outside ... and rain got down the gear selector (it'll sit in there until it finds it way through). The gearbox could be ok .... but I'm not risking all the work of having to pull it back out (I pulled the linkage off the top, and the box has quite a lot of condensation inside). I'll have to go for another drive and swap it for another gearbox he has ..... I'm just glad I noticed!

    I was thinking the same.

What is in the bilge of an R380 that might be upset by a bit of water?
