The flat top of the GPS pod got the better of me so today I added a few more layers of woven rovings to the top section to mimic the instrument binnacle.

Whils it doesn’t look dramatically different in this photo, it looks a lot better in real life.

You can buy new instrument binnacles… Expensive though. Eeek
I reckon if someone smarter than me could make those binnacles with 3D printing at a reasonable price there would be a ready market. I would certainly be interested.

I did a trial fit of the headers before I had them ceramic coated to ensure that they fit. They did but I had to relocate the tie bar between the flanges of the LHS ones to clear the dip stick.
While the headers were being ceramic coated I installed the clutch slave cylinder as it sits above the headers and may be difficult to fit later and filled the system up with fluid.
So today I went to install the LHS header and I couldn’t get them in because the clutch slave cylinder was in the way [bawl]
Back under the car and removed it.
As some of the primary pipes of the headers cover the mounting holes, you cannot use bolts but have to use studs, AND they have to be just the right length so the nut and washer fit but the stud doesn’t foul the primary pipe.

So with the studs installed I went to fit the triple layer metal gaskets.
But two of the holes are designed to be a “neat” fit on the thread but are too small to fit over the plain shank of the studs [bigsad]
A little bit of work with the step drill eventually fixed that.

And finally the LHS one has been installed [bigrolf] along with the clutch slave cylinder.

Now for the drivers side.

Today I installed the RHS headers.
It all went a lot easier having learned a few lessons from the LHS [bighmmm]

These hoses along with the two on the back of the water pump are usually a PITA to fit, well they have been for me based on previous RRC‘s that I’ve owned.

I put a little bit of WD40 inside each hose end and they slipped on surprisingly easily.
Another job done.

The rear universal shaft moves freely in and out on the splines, however the front one did not [bigsad]
With considerable brute force I managed to separate the spline.
Clearly there had been water ingress and this is why it was difficult to separate.

I now have both the male and female splines soaking in Metal Rescue to remove the corrosion and then they can be greased an reassembled.
But I need a new seal first.

It looks like a simple cork seal that is diagonally cut to slip over the spline.
I am assuming I can buy one from a bearing supplier.
