I have been down this path many moons ago.

The 81 body I used had a pair in mint condition, which I still have.

The 74 pair were not too bad so I removed them then removed the glass (clear on the 74, factory tint on all the 81 frames).

I got the 74 frames absolutely rust free and applied the best anti rust coating AFAIR then glued the tinted glass in with sika.

One is totally munted now, the other half munted.

When the time comes I'll be using the 81 frames after I get them plated then painted.

The stainless ones are tempting.............. is there a discount for more than 1 pair?

Repair option................ Not my idea, someone on here had the same prob and worked out that early 4 door QV frames could be used with the straight ends extended a little.

He may have just glued the little extensions onto the glass. I pretty sure the info is somewhere in the RRC section if you want to do a search.

    cheers, David L
Are you window frames structural? Can you 3D print one from a strong plastic ... ?

The top pivot mount on the front outside of the frame is pop riveted onto the frame.

The bottom pivot is something else.

A rod with a thread goes from the bottom of the frame into the door, through a bracket welded to the internal frame.

It has a washer and spring and a tensioning nyloc after the bracket that provides the friction to hold the QV where you put it. There is a fair bit of load on the frame.

A real pov pack solution would be to just sika the QV glass into the door frame, but the QVs are really useful if your POS pre=dates air con like mine, or for ashing ciggies if you smoke.

    cheers DL

Oh, they have vent windows as well.

I'm guessing in the future, this rust will not be much of an issue as the cars age .... as they will mostly be stored inside and not daily driven (ie: left to soak in the rain for months on end through winter).

    Quarter Vents

For those that have not had a door apart, this is what the quarter vents look like.
    Hopefully yours have less rust.

Looks like your glass has the same tint as what is on my 74 (with a complete 81 body).74 glass was clear.

I wonder if they all came like that in the early 80's.

Dave, according to James Taylor's ?Range Rover First Generation?, Sundym tinted glass became standard in 1980.

    Deja vu

This is the drivers door bottom hinge mount.
Just below the hinge mounting is a bit of corrosion

So here we go again. Cut the rust out.

Not pretty, but will do until I prepare the door properly for final painting.

There is one available on Gumtree for $250 and they are NLA from the usual suppliers.
Can someone provide the overall length and width of the angle frame please.
Also the flange length of the angle the frame is made from.
I can then fabricate one myself.

    Regards
    Phil
Well, I had a bit of spare time the other day so I fabricated a left and right hand battery hold down bracket as the Classic didn't have any when I bought it.
They are not replicas of the originals but close enough for me.

I received a response from Machinor and a pair of quarter light frames are GBP 220 plus 20 postage. You will also have to add GST of GBP24 bringing the total to 264 pounds or approximately $528.
He would do a deal of 600 pounds plus 20 pounds shipping for 3 sets (plus GST of course).
These are made of Zintec sheet, so should be better than mild steel, but they are not stainless.

As my left side quarter light frame is in reasonable condition I decided to buy from PartsLink.
    https://www.ebay.com/itm/306398758670
This came in at $251 AUD delivered.

I have since removed the quarter light seal and it is cracked in a few areas, but it is still in one piece.
I have been soaking it in Simple Green and it appears to be slowly softening up.
I will reuse it and seal up the cracks with black RTV.
Replacements are ridiculously expensive and I only have 2 kidneys and one probably wouldn’t fetch enough $.

    Hi Phil,

The US ones look ok for the price.

The UK ones used to be stainless I thought, thanks for getting the prices.

I'll have a look at mine in the 'fullness of time' but one thing I will be doing if I use what I have is getting them plated, based on past experience. I've been told it's not exxy at all.

Came across a pair of complete frames I'd forgotten about and an original battery clamp that's different from yours.

    cheers, DL
