Bearman is the man to ask.
Hi all, hope you are having a good weekend. I’m seeking some advise on the LT95 transmission. I’ve just replaced the transfer gear (number 10 in the parts diagram) it’s on the end of the mainshaft in the transfer. This is the second time, the first one was replacing a fairley overdrive unit however the splines were worn out in the replacement gear I got, it was a temp solution to get the car mobile wile working on it. Unfortunately the second time round with a good gear has not gone so well, I locked the transmission in gear as I had read somewhere that was the best way to stop the mainshaft sliding forward. Obviously did something wrong there as now I cannot get the spacer on and hardly can get the circlip on to retain the gear which tells me the mainshaft has moved forward, I have tried to pull it back without success. I also have no first or fourth gear able to be selected it’s as if the lever is locked solid when trying to shift into those gears. I’m about to remove the floor to go in through the top of the box and correct my mishap however looking for any pictures or tips of what I am correcting. I read there are shims that drop into steps on the mainshaft or something of the like. Any advice would be helpful. I am trade qualified as a mechanic however have been off the tools in an office for the last 15 years 😂 I think they took me off the tools because I kept breaking things 😬. Thanks in advance guys, don’t laugh too much.
Regards, Dan

Thankyou, watched some you tube and studied a parts breakdown, I suspect I know where the issue is however definitely one to Discuss before tearing in.
I think you need to put the box in third to stop any movement when doing this, it’s been a while since I fitted the OD to mine but if it has moved, I think you can remove the shifter and get in that way to rectify it. You can’t just pull it back as something catches up front when the shaft moves back.
The panels over the gearbox come out on the early RRC’s so although a bit of a bugger, it’s not as bad as having to drop the box out or anything.
I’ll send a text to Bearman and see if he is able to log on where he is to assist - he’s the oracle on these boxes.
There is also at least one other thread here about this issue but finding it will be the hard part - I’ll have a look and see what I can find.

Ok, found a similar thread - there’s some advice on reseating the thrust bearing and getting the shaft back in it - Lt 95 gearbox problem HELP!
Worth a try before pulling anything apart.

Thanks everyone, had joy, ended up taking the transfer sump off, rear transfer cover, selector plate off the box and side cover off box. With the use of flat blade screw drivers levering gears in the box back and forth and on the transfer gear circlip grove and a heap of 180 rotations I had joy and the shaft has slid back and I can get all gears manually with the selector cover off. Was about 10 minutes off pulling the box. A lot to be said about walking away for 5 and coming back.
Good result.![]()
