Should be pretty straightforward, especially if you have a running donor.
i am looking at swaping a 1991 3.5liter hotwire disco engine into my 1985 rrc. has anyone done this before?
what are some major problems i will come across if there are any? i imagine its pretty straightforward but just incase
Ben
Should be pretty straightforward, especially if you have a running donor.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.
As mentioned if you have a donor vehicle so you can grab anything you’re short of it should be a straight swap. I went from carby to a 14CUX 3.9 in mine and it was pretty straightforward.
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.
wouldn't it be a 3.9 if its hotwire efi ? I thought the 3.5s had issues and were the old AFM type injections.

I swapped my 3.5 hotwire from my 1991 D1 into my 1986 rangie, though I only changed over the inlet manifold and everything attached to it, it all worked really well, once I got the right tune settings on the AFM, Ignition timing and TPS.
You will probably find it a lot easier with swapping over the whole engine as long as it is in good running nick.
The things to make sure of are that you also swap over the Road Speed Transducer and infact any of the sensors attached to the 14 CUX system which is pretty obvious.
I also got rid of the original fuel pump and purchaded a more reliable type unit from a specialist fuel injection mob in Melbourne and carried another with me as a spare. I never needed it tjough even after three or four years.
The ECU is supposed to have a Auto Trans or Manual Trans imput selection to it but if you are going from auto trans to auto trans or manual to manual then you shouldn't have a problem.
With the wiring harness of the 14 CUX you may find it a bit short to mount the ECU on the right side kick panel where it was mounted in my D1 but I just mounted it on the driver side panel where the brake and clutch pedals hang through.
The whole thing was a pretty basic job really just required a bit of time and patience.
