    And it came to Pass,
    This is "Peak" Range rover...
    Apparently...

I'm getting on with the most urgent and desperately needed deep clean cycle.
Then a few fixes to ensure that it's properly fit for the road - i.e to my standards and not the transport departments casual glances it already exceeds.

Suspension compliance is probably the only real bugbear - I am very partial to the standard marshmallow ride, and this almost feels like the E63AMG in full sport+ mode. i.e. firm. not jumpy but it could do with a little bit of taming.

But I may also have been given a life line with the old RRC in that P.O. has doors, and a bunch of other parts that come with this vehicle. I have to make the return trip and pick them up, but It's all good so far. Nothing needs doing that I was not already aware of.

Fingers crossed it stays that way.
Roads?.. Where we're going, we don't need roads...

sounds like you just need to find some original springs and shockers. for it. You'll probably need air bags for the rear springs if you wish to tow or carry loads with it

Oh, the irony! EAS removed but with a +2" coil lift, +2" body lift (I'm sure that that has been done properly) and 33" tyres, the suspension needs 'a little bit of taming'. Why anyone removes the EAS and ABS in late Classics is still beyond my comprehension of reasoning, learn how the systems work and service them accordingly, pay for the service and retain the convenience?

    Yep.

As far as I'm concerned, 1993 LSE is Peak Range Rover.

And this is peakier - 300tdi, R380, LT230 2" body, 2" HD springs, 33's and like all RRC's.... Needs some tidying up.

So, you mean that 'Peak Range Rover' is basically a facelift Discovery 1 with a longer wheel base?

that should be easy enough to fix then, I'd chuck the body lift and lifted springs in the nearest bin .... and put some proper tyres and suspension back under it .... and it should run and drive like a rangie again

I'm getting on with the sanitization process.

    electrically, mechanically and cosmetically.

The interior I moaned about in another thread, The more I dig (into the dirt) the more I desire to strip the entire interior and deep deep deep clean it.

    Unsurprising considering it's previous lives.

I have a decision to make regarding the leather seats and the electrics.

The usual module failure at some point and one of the previous owners has done the 4 toggle switch DIY on the drivers side. The squab's stitching on the outside edge has also popped and it could do with restitching, but part of me wants to give consideration to replacing all the leather with new and redoing the seat carcasses back to new.

It's not that I couldn't or can't rescue the interior that is in it, but the amount of scratches on the rear seats alone justifies their replacement instead of repairing (costs would be approximately equal for either) and since the carpets are just about completely buggered, I will more than likely be replacing them with new carpet and rubber floors for when I take it 'places'.

Haven't found anywhere that offers retrimming kits for the LSE. GAHH and world upholstery used to be my go-to for Mercedes stuff, but they have nothing for range rover. KHM in germany haven't got anything either, nor do exmoor etc. I don't know where to look short of DIY'ing it... But then I look at the farm truck's really nice original cloth seats and can see that they have withstood all the abuse of the same years, and hardly look a day old. The temptation is there to swap the seats over from one to the other, lose the electrics for manual controls, but keep that range rover aesthetic... and a slight colour change from the sorrel to winchester... which I actually prefer to be honest. it's a very understated muted colour that doesn't show dirt either.... and that IS a nice thing to have in a Rangie...

I'm getting lost in the minutae and need to re-scope the project. Having said that, part of me wants to know the cost estimates of an off-the-shelf retrim kit versus swapping over versus DIY'ing.

I also made a conscious decision this morning after Ron's extremely kind gesture, to return all the pillaged parts from the farm truck (cough... sorry incorrect terminology used.. I mean "estate vehicle") , back to the "estate vehicle" so it can retain it's clean and tidy status for when HRH Chuckie decides to turn up for a bit of greenlaning and now thanks to Ron it will have an undamaged steering colum escutcheon.
I'll have to keep my eyes peeled on the LSE... I'm seeing more electrical gremlins than the P.O. had given me fair warning of - they were obviously there when he bought the vehicle and he was too afraid to tackle it.... and I can see why.

Yep. it's as I had predicted. ( I am posting this whilst in elbow deep exploration of the under-dash cable rats nest)

Gonna be a dash-out job this time. I will commit to it. I know this means I will find more than I bargained for.

I want to make this one zombie apocalypse proof now.

Gee's ..... slow down To much, you're trying to do to much at once. Don't pull them both apart or everything just becomes to much an overwhelming. This is my trick, pull everything apart.... struggle to find time/money to fix .... either drive it in a million pieces ... or have it sit in the shed for years on end

Get that sucker back together and start driving ... :

Find the bits and pieces you need to fix it or convert to soft dash first. Then worry about the pulling apart. I drove mine with the interior in bits for about 2years before I "half assembled" it 'cos it was driving me crazy driving around with no dahs, no center console etc.... I never did finish the center console and bits I was trying to make for it. I'll get back to it ..... oneday ...

This stuff needs to be fun with an end point in site, or if you're anyting like me, it'll never get finished.

Dunno if you're interested, but Mike at Britrest did one recently-ish... This is the first in quite a series of vids on the resto.

I agree but I'll reserve any further comment as to the reasons why a TDI will never make a Range Rover Classic, run and drive like a Range Rover Classic.

I hear what you are saying, but it’s worth remembering that the RRC was fitted, from factory, with two variants of the Italian VM, and 200 and 300 TDis, just not here. So a 300TDi would drive like a RRC.
