Idle Question on inflating tyres with EAS compressor

I'm aware that its not a normal recommended action, but does anyone know approximately how long it would take to inflate a standard AT tyre from say 20 - 40 psi, and also from 0 - 40 psi please?

The amusing quip response would be something like-

"About the same life-age as a cheapo $2 store 12v air compressor - you know the kind - the one that melts the wiring after 30 seconds of being plugged into the cigarette lighter socket and turned on "high".

In truth Gavin, I have no exact idea, but my comparison to the $2 pump is not all that far off - they are roughly the same displacement and operate at the same or similar RPM, and no - I wouldn't use it "frequently" for a 0-35psi inflation.

The other thing (leading questions...) is that if say, I did a bead... no way in hell would it reseat it before it overheated and did damage, without the hand of god intervening.

My understanding is that nearly all the automotive air compressors installed in vehicles for the air suspension across all the euro vehicles utilize essentially the same manufacturer and they're all about a max lifespan of 10 years in normal operation if the filters are changed (which no dealer ever does) so you're probably not doing it any favours.

and those 12v cig socket gift ideas... avoid - can't even pump up a bicycle tyre

I actually timed it the other day, with my ARB compressor,it took 4.5 minutes to inflate from 20PSI to 42PSI,per tyre.
    Tyres are 285/60/18,BFG AT.

Now i need to time the deflation time,to make it easier as well.

I should have repeated the heading to clarify that I was talking about possible pumping when using the EAS compressor (in an emergency scenario).

I concur that with a bead off it was not going to work.
Whenever going off bitumen I carry a stand alone HD double thumper compressor, but my Bessie came with an extension EAS air lead to the back of the car near to the tow hitch, which led me to ask the "idle question".

I'd say in response to "emergency". is that in an 'emergency' you're going to use whatever you can that is available, to get you out of a pickle - and if it's a flat in the middle of nowhere - and that compressor lasts just long enough to do so, then it's a successful outcome.
