Well....that worked well.

Actually its a POS. I just replaced the front shocks as the previous ones had 24" travel and the front suspension dropped 27.5" one had pulled out of its mounting and was running loose. Haven't got to the rears yet.
I didn't pick this for a while as I hadn't driven further than around the block for 6 months. Firstly the starter went. I purchased a new one but managed to salvage the old one by dismantling and cleaning. I now have a spare. Then the EFI went. I replaced the MAF, plugs, Leads, Coil and finally the distributor. Once this was done the alternator said farewell so I replaced this with a generic Bosch.
Now it was running well and I took it for a test run and the Power Steering box gave up the ghost and left me with Popeye biceps. So this was replaced with a new one at great expense and I can steer the thing but there is a horrible noise now coming from the fuel pump and the revs cycle accordingly. A drivers side swivel hub rebuild followed soon after.
The guy who rebuilt the swivel hub elected to leave the front hubs unlocked before putting the covers back on (not quite sure what damage he was trying to hide) and now there is a squeal from the front drivers side hub at full lock). As a consequence the centre viscous is more than likely stuffed.
There is a vibration at low speed from the front double-cardan shaft due to the 4.5 inches of lift, fortunately this goes away at higher speed however the front coupler rattles and clunks and need servicing (quote is $850 for a rebuild). Understeer abruptly turns into oversteer if I am a little too enthusiastic around corners, the exhaust is too noisy on anything over a 10 minute run as it is straight-through from the collector back, the central locking ceased working a while ago, along with the cruise control and air-conditioning. There is rust forming in the footwells, the roof-lining is starting to sag, I have rust-spots on the bonnet where the paint has lifted, and the battery runs flat if the car is left for more than three days due to an undiagnosed problem.
Interestingly, the 60 series axles are narrower than the Rangie so when I purchased it it had a set of hub-adaptors. It obtained a blue slip and several pink-slips in this configuration. I'm not sure how it was even engineered (probably over the phone!) So now I have a set of customs with a 46 offset for road use and retain the mags for offroad.
Any offers....;)
But........I am now past the point of no return and the maintenance/rebuild will continue. It looks very nice sitting in my driveway. It would look even nicer navigating a medium/hard trail somewhere in the Wattagans. So I am now looking for a donor Disco with a serpentine. I may revert back to rover 24 spline axles, drop in an LT230, swap to a manual box.........maybe a 4.6.........time will tell.
Hears my 93 vogue se, overall great truck goes anywhere with a decent list of mods!
