So this is what I just bought...

And I can say with conviction i've definitely bitten off more than I can chew, so you'll be seeing me around these parts a fair bit I reckon.

Hello, i'm Dave, and I now have a 1982 Range Rover that I am going to try and make good as new. So far, i've evicted loads of spiders (including a fairly large black one that jumped out at me), removed a fair amount of mouse poo from the engine bay, given her a bit of a wipe down, and gone over as thoroughly as I can without any reference to see what is missing (very little), what can be fixed easily (quite a lot), and what i'm going to need to get someone else to do (nothing until a full-time job looms into view).

The plan is to have her fired up by my birthday in early March, moving under her own power soon thereafter, and if all goes well, in for a roadworthy by the end of April.

Then i'll work on her on weekends, with occasional four-wheel driving for good measure. Ultimately I want to buy a newer example and have this one off the road and do a ground-up restoration.

Red paint is a serious PITA on an older RRC............ everyone wants to buy it, you want to keep it............ red absorbs all UV and degrades even with the best clear coat x 5 on top........ white is great for a keeper.

That's acrylic laquer by the looks of it ... No clear there. I dare him to run a buff and some heavy cutters over it ........ He'll be amazed at how it comes up with the oxidisation removed.

That paint looks amazingly sound in the piccies (though piccies have been known to lie). If it's straight, you could just scuff, mask and recoat that one for very little.
