    ok guys which motor???

I am once again re-evaluating the motorvation for my rangie project....... I currently have 4 ideas swimming in my head. 1986 hi line 4dr gutted shell
    1. Redo another 3.5 with a torquier cam gas
    2. Use my spare leyland terrier and build a 4.4-5.0L gas
    3. Swap in a 253 gas
    4. swap in a 200tdi (price of fuel......looking better all the time)
I'm in total confusion........... any thoughts people?

Hi, Many of us have done this in many ways. The 3.5 and 4.4 are not X bolted and will not stand up to stress.. Putting 4.4 in in can be fairly involved If not on straight gas do not run well on old fuel system and run lean. Some parts for 4.4s are not as easy to get. Pistons, water pump etc. With mine I used Holden starfire pistons and honed out pins. Redrilled dowles and used Rangie T cover. Drilled oil pasage and fitted Rangie Heads. Got spacers for EFI manifold. Redrilled Rangie fly wheel and made a few adapters.
The idea is all bolt ons are standard to year of Rangie and are plentifull. It goes hard but will not last. Cost was under $800 all up.
As for a 3.5 I've put a cam in mine and 9.2:1 comp Headers etc. Was not worth $$$ spent. Lost low end power and Gained a bit of top end. Be OK in a manual but NBG in a auto.
    I'm going for a 4.6. Next.With gas.
The 3.9 is a lot better then 3.5 if you can find one.

200 TDi is a good idea and can be done LRA have what you Need
253 Was popular but has a few issues and is heavy. Best of luck!
    Cheers RR.

if you're concerned about fuel prices you only have one option..

    the tdi...

then you dont have to pay anything, just back up to the local fish and chip shop.

    Go the TDi

I agree, if doing big Kms and are not set on the charm of the V8.
    Ulp V8= 15 TO 20l/100 @140ISH
    Lpg V8= 25L/100 @ 80ISH
    tDI = 11 TO 13 l/100 @ 150ISH

    Considered a 4BT1?

Ive seen them come up on Ebay for around $2000. But not often.
The Blower is same as M90 used on a comy. I've got a new one for $800. If I cant find a kit .... Its going to be a custom job I'm picking up a 86 model on tue which has a 4.6 in it.. Also has LT230, My Rangie is another story! I dont want to hyjack this thread.
    Cheers RR.
