only problems that Ive found with the suzi (in all varients that are in ADF use) are idiot operators abusing them.
Even then Ive never seen one so dead it totally stopped or couldnt be repaired enough to work or be used as a running training aid. Yes that includes 4 or 5 that got hydro locked.

hmmmm.......relatively abuse proof eh?!?!?I've got to admit I've heard very mixed reports on the chev v8........good and bad........the tdi's......well it would be nice to keep it all rover..........and the isuzu is a factory "type" motor that is very renowned as being a faithful old plugger.........basically looking for the easiest/cheapest option
Just found out the motor has now been sold

Hi guys
Im new to this forum, and shame on me, dont own a landie (or a 4wd) atm. Im moving outback in a couple of months, and I reckon by the end of the year I will have a bit of money saved to get a landie of some description.
This thread interested me as I am leaning towards getting an old RR, pref 4 door, and putting a diesel in it. I completely forgot about the Isuzu engines. How much would I be looking at for a reasonable second hand one and gear box to match? I'm not too fussed either way about turbo/power (did the canning in 2006 with a td5 disco and a 4.2L gutless 80series cruiser-so I know how to do anything with stuff all power), just reliability and fuel economy. What sort of economy can be expected?
Where should I start looking for these engines?
Or alternatively, how hard is it to get an ex-ADF Land Rover which should already have this fitted? And what sort of bikkies am I looking at?
Cheers,
Adam
BUT gee the Isuzu ruins the nature of a Range Rover. Someone in the club used to have one and how coarse, noisy, vibrationy?< and every other Y it was. And it did LT77s-85s like they were made of cheese.
I reckon I would look for a wrecked Grand Cherokee diesel or Mercedes 2.7 or 3.0 V6. What a great modern and powerful engine.
Now you can do all the work on how to work the electronics and let us know! LOL
A Gen 111 would be the best V8. There are lots of people who know how to custom tune the ECU. You can virtually have a turnkey electronics job done. The adaptors are available and it's as light as a 3.5.
