The plastic ones that sit inside over the filler bump ? havent used one but seen a few, good idea and uses little space.

Have one in my 89 model. Its great and takes up no load space. Worth the coin.

Thats the one. Thanks for that Rangier. Whereabouts is the filler? It says on there website it goes either side of the car is this correct?

That sounds like the type I have and while it is good there are a couple of comments I would make.

Yes it is made to fit on either side - however I have my HF radio mounted on the RHS next to the bump in the floor for the fuel filler on a 1985 RR so I use the tank on the LHS.

The problem with fitting it on the LHS is the mounts and supports for the spare wheel protrude from the side wall which means that the tank won't fit flush and there is a gap beside the tank. There is also the hollow in the floor where the wheel sits which means another reduction in support of the tank.

You have to devise your own mountings.

The filler is actually the hand pump hole which you have to take out everytime you wish to re-fill. There is no breather in the tank and either you loosen off the pump to let air in as you pump out or it gets really hard to pump. (If you put a breather in you may get water splashing inside the car.)

Also the neck on the hand pump is not long enough to get the water outside the car. More water rusting the car - I have an extension hose on the spout.

If you still use the interior trim from the HiLine there is nothing to hold the rear cover.

Once you have finished the trip, it is really hard to empty the tank completely as there is no drain holes and there is a lip on the inside of the filler which prevents the last of the water getting out.

It probably fits best in the RHS.

Thanks Diana. I have to fit it on the left hand side as the fuel system is on the other side. I also don't have the spare wheel mounting brackets. I might have get a small one way valve and make up a breather for it. Would a sheet of ply be enough to support it where the hollow is? Thanks for the info.

Yes a sheet of ply is enough to support it, although I have sometimes thought of having a S/Steel or Aluminium tray made up to sit the tank in. If fixed to the floor (with twist locks or something similar) on tabs outside the tray it would make a little trap for any drips and act as a bottom retaining bracket then as I do a strap for the top.

I have epoxy glued a small plastic stop cock (from a drip irrigation system) into the top of the tank. That way I turn the tap on when I want to pump out water and turn it off when travelling.

I even thought of connecting the fitting up to a tank and use the pressure for "mains pressure" water?
