    Tyres, CB, Radio & spearkers!

OK - there are a few things I was wondering about & somethings I need to confirm before my rangie see's the road again.

    Tyres:
Yes there are a million threads with tyres... I have been reading them.
My question is this. Currently I have stock rims on a 89 RR, front tyre is 205/80/16. What can I go to max with out a lift kit? I think it was 31's? also WTF does 30, 31, 33's etc add up to the same mesurements as the 205/80/16??

    Radio:
OK - the Vox I have I think is dead... might try again since I found out from here - but I think its dead... even if it aint - most of the speakers are
So I was wondering what might fit where? I think there are some speakers in the dash, doors & where you open the back - there are some up near the roof. Any idea what size speakers I can fit in these place's, with out major mods?? they all need to be replaced. The head unit is ok - I should be able to fit anything I want in there.... right?

    CB:
Alrighty... CB install - where have some of you put your's? I dont wanna go putting holes in the dash since it does not have any cracks at all. Thought about a roof console, but in the mean time till I get a roof console... where have most of you put yours?

    thanks in advance

1 245.75 R16 are about teh biggest that will fit without a body lift, and preferably with say a 2 inch spring lift. Even then you should cut the flange out of the rear guard from 12 oclock to the front, and grind down the bolt that sticks out at 12 oclock.
245s are about 31.5 inches in diameter vs 29.5 for 205s

It is hard to fit small speakers in the top of the front door as there is a beam at the front of teh hole. jaycar do a cheap speaker that fits. If you have a Vogue with no big speakers, ther eare cutouts for 6 inch rounds at the bottom front of the front door. Again I put Jaycar speakers with a tweeter in and then networked the two speakers via a capacitor.

CB. I removed my rear ashtray at the rear of the console and fitted my UH11 there by making a plate inside and sandwiching the consolebetween the CB bracket and plate. Power from rear cig lighter. No holes.

    HI Phil,

thanks for that - I think mine is the vogue - how does one tell anyway? apart from the fct that I know i have big speakers in the front doors & I am sure there is atleast one mid dash. Speaking of which - would you know what size the rear speakers are?
It also has central locking & elec windows.

Now I know what size tyres I can start looking at price & brands YAY! lol I wanted to know what the max was before I needed that lift tho.
As for the CB - thats an awesome idea!!

Just gotta get my bully from Tas here to Vic & thrown on tyres now!!

I've also fitted the UHF in the middle of the dash. Speaker wise, (mine does not have the speakers in the bottom of the doors) all 4 speakers are 4 inches in diameter, the ones in the doors have the grill exposed whereas some are hidden behind the door card. Be careful not to have too heavier a speaker in the roof at the back as you may require additional support to hold them up. I have fitted the polk audio speakers and find them really good - had really cheap ones to start with but they were crap.

The Vogue is the cheapy with cloth trim and no electric seats or sunroof.
The Vogue SE is the one for pimps.

If you have big speakers in the doors it may be an SE.
The rear speakers and top front speakers are disgusting 4 inch rounds with PLASTIC baskets. The Jaycar 4Inch speaker is quite a cheap one with a square surround. You cannot fit one with big magnet due to the lack of rear room.
I have a Jaycar 100W RMS 2 channel amp under the passenger seat feeding just the fronts, as the backs will never give any bass as they are 4inch and have no volume behind them, and the area is not sealed.

By the way for my CB, I have removed the front ashtray and have an extension speaker in there , as behind the console the sound has tough competition with car noise.

Have in the past run 245/75/16 (30.5x9) BF Goodrich Long Trails on my 89. They do touch on full lock. It was much better than 205s

I have used 31/10.5/15ś, 265/70/16ś and 235/85/16ś on my 2 rangies all with only a 2 inch spring lift - they did touch the inner guards but not by that much, 235/85ś really needed a 1 inch BL but otherwise were fine. Oh and 215/80/16ś were good too and didnt need any mods at all.

mm, SE Vogue ay? I can confirm it does have the big speakers, no ele seats tho, elec mirrors & windows & central locking.. .thats all I can remember at the moment lol. no sunroof I know that one for sure as well.

    So I am guessing with tyres I need to find something between 245 & 215 /80 ~ 70 / 16

Maxxis is what i am going to be looking at I think... or anything about the 170 ~ 180 mark I reckon. lol gotta start somewhere.

oh - here is one for all of you with the CB's. I am buying a TJM bully & want to mount the aerial for the CB on it... how & where do you run the cable for it to the CB? Haven't checked or anything yet on my rangie - was just thinking about it last night lol

It must be on the LH side ( by law). You just run it through in front of the LH battery cradle along the LH Guard with the loom, behind the water bottle, and through the big grommet I assume for a LHD steering column. Hook it down to the sloped floor , then along the side of the console under the carpet. There are clips there and other wiring.

    sweet thanks for that!!

I found the leather booklet with all the service info & what not - service book is totally full lol but while looking over it I have found the delivery date & details from the dealer when it was first bought. Its put down as a "highline" model... so RR 89 Highline.. .make sense? LOL

btw - has anyone ever heard of a tyre brand called Nangkang? Was talking to a bloke who reckon they were the ****.
Plan with tyres is to get some - see how the rangie goes over winter & doing some base 4WD'ing - then if I am happy lift kit & more serious sized tyres to follow looking at 235/70/16
