did you try locking the centre diff? I've heard of axles/diffs breaking on the road while driving.
something let go in the drive line the other day i suspected the tranfercase just climbing a steep road underload and bang !! no warning no drive in any gears hi or low.still at a mates place havent taken the drain plug out to look at the oil yet i herd thiers a slip joint between the auto and the transfercase and they can go or mabe a broken chain either way not good thanks chris::![]()

1991's has a viscous coupling with just a high and low ratio.

Hello Chris it will more than likely be the transfer case shaft between the rear output and front output behind the viscus

I did mine before it went Bang as It is a common problem with high k Rangies mine had done 360k and was ready to go bang.
they are very easy to dismantle and repair.
