Thanks for your offer rovercare, Id like to be heading over your way for a romp in the high country. Next time I pass through Ill stop in to buy you a beer regardless for all your help. Ill try waxen for a diff as you suggest.

Waxen, Can I get back to you about pick up. I might have a vintage engine coming into melb from NSW this weekend so I may be able to kill two birds with one stone. How much for a diff? What condition are they in?

    Cheers

    Hi Dale,

I've just had a look at whats there, I have a 76 rear that has just been removed to make way for a Maxidrive. It has had 1 disc removed, (I have other disc's if needed) so it's ready to go and in Moorabbin.
At home buried in the shed is a complete 1980 model and there is an 85' still in the car, I think there's a centre already removed waiting also.
So take your pick, weekend may be possible everything is a bit up in the ether in that department.
Condition wise they are all good, I have driven all of them and all are quiet.
I dont drink, but something equivalent will do.
    Give me call on 0415850907
    Cheers

Wayne, thanks very much for the center. I got it yesterday from my brother in law and had it in by lunch. I didnt realise just how bad my rear diff was until I drove it. No more howl or clunking. Nice and tight.

My brother in law also wizzed off your wash basin with it. I can get you another one if youd like. (personally Id miss this more than a un-used center laying around the shop so I hope youre not browned off).

    Once again many thanks.

    Cheers

    No worries Dale,
You can keep the dish, I was glad to see it go
The centre had less than 100,000 k's on it so it should see you right for another couple of 100 or until you break it.
Thanks for the present under the mat.

Well... found some lighter shimmies and shakes once the diff centre was changed. New unis in and it is now shaking far worse. Turns out slightly nackered unis were compensating for bad drive shaft splines. Anyone got the cure for this? Chuck it and find new shafts? Re-condition?? What do you suggest?

    Thanks
    Dale

Thanks Waxen ! (my hero!!) Do both the splines usually chew out or is it usually just the male spline? Should I replace both shafts? Ive lost your address so Ill give you a call later. Perhaps you could plonk it outside for me.. Seemed to work well last time.

    Cheers
