    76 rangie problems

    1. I have a very leaky steering box although I just paid to have the seal replaced and the guy has closed his business so I cant take it back. What Id like to know is, is there a cir-clip that goes under the seal to stop it dropping out? If so does anyone know the O.D.?

    2. My rear pinion has developed a fairly serious vibration (can move it vertically by hand). Is it just a matter of pinching down the nut or is there a bearing thats gone off (part number??)? Can I change the bearing myself? Do I need to take the diff out of the car? Will I need a press? Sorry lots of q's for a first post.

    Thanks very much.

    See steeringbox

However, this is the later 4-bolt steering bix. Probably much the same in that area, though.

    Re rear diff.
You have dead pinion bearings as they are shimmed. Its time to have the diff rebuilt by a specialist or get a second hand diff. They are the same or functionally similar right up to 91-92.

If your in Vic, you can grab a good second hand centre from me for a slab of cans that's cheaper than the pinion bearings alone

The price on early pinion bearings is outrageous, there are 2 types though not sure of the change point.
I have a couple of complete diffs here to choose from if interested.
Your steering box may need rebushing if it has a self removing seal

    Just pick it up

Otherwise Waxen said he had one, he's a bit closer than I, the frieght will cost twice the cost of the diff centre
