    My 88 Classic failed to start ... until the morning

    G'day all

    Took the 88 for a mountain spin on Saturday - a great day out! Stopped for a billy on the way back and after about an hour she simply failed to start - kicked over, waited etc etc until eventually phoned a mate to come and collect us. We checked leads, connections etc, then locked her up and came home.

    Next morning went out with fresh battery, tool chest etc, expecting a long frustrating process ... but lo and behold, opened the door, put the key in and she started as normal. Drove home as if nothing had happened - tested again today - all OK.

    Any ideas?

    of course it could have been a myriad of actual reasons but i did have a similar mystery snafu once so i thought i'd relate it.
    my '88 rrc dropped dead on me while rolling along once. in my case it was an lt connection at the coil which looked allright but responded favourably to a wiggle and a tap. could yours have been caused by differential cooling rates in a connection while the tea brewed restored eventually by both items reaching ambient temperature overnight ? if nothing else you can try, its but 30 seconds work to dab with vaseline and tweak the lucar connectors an 'nth' tighter. then if it happens again at least you've got one less thing to check!

    i nearly ended up a hiker too last night. i rather foolishly drove up into the otways to a fire festival with insufficient petrol. i left forrest with the orange light already firmly on and got home to anglesea. that's 75.9 kilometers of tarmac travelled. anybody know what the handbook says you've got?

    have checked the links, and started the long process - vaseline in hand, and tool chest at the ready!

    having said that there is probably some vastly better potion in a spray can, probably made by wurth, that will do just as good a job but nothing stirs up the missus more than finding the 'house' pot of vaseline covered in oily finger marks and minus a large wodge obviously extracted by someone with less than clean hands.
