    1985 Rangie-308 4 speed auto

    Hi All,

I have just picked up a rough 1985 Rangie with a 308 with a 4 speed auto. Body etc rough but very repairable-motor strong- no noise, smoke etc

I already have a clean 1984 Rangie with a 4.4 3 speed auto. I dont know if I want to go to the hassle of changing motors completely as the 4.4 is doing the job at the moment.

I would like to change the auto over though. Will the 4 speed auto bolt up to the leyland without too many dramas?

    Thanks

    Hamish

Yes, but you need need a crank shaft adapter to suit ZF-4.4 or alternatively, a standard 3.5 one, then bore the holes to suit the 4.4 PCD, other than that, it'll all bolt up

But fug that, put the 308 in

    Thanks for the replies.....

Im still deciding if I will replace both engine and tranny or just tranny.

The 308 runs sweet, but so does the p76 which has had a fair bit of work done to it.

Nothing wrong with a good 4.4. They have torque to spare. Just don't rev the pick handles out of it and will go for years if have Rangie heads and timing case.

Why would you want to put a boat anchor in a Rangie. They sound horrible and are heavy.
    But go for ever

Because, I've put more "different" motors in a rangie than probably anyone else on this board

Yes... That I'd say you have. You know I'm a bloody purist
How can I say that when I've just put a Toymota engine and trans in a S111 109 Sorry series lovers It does pull well with 4.7:1..
