Overheating in 45 degree ambient- ?to be expected

Bit warm down here at the moment- had to drive into melbourne yesterday for a medical consult, ambient temp got up to 45 degrees. My 94 3.9 RRC (no modifications) was performing faultlessly on the freeway with the aircon on; as soon as I turned off the freeway the temp guage went up near the red, just managed to keep it around the half-way mark with a/c off and keeping moving, holding revs up at traffic lights. On the way home, had to turn off the a/c on hills to manage the engine temp.
I'm wondering what the experiences of other owners are, is this to be expected or should I get the radiator flushed? My 88 model has never had temp rise.

Mine does that too. Coming across the Hay Plain last week (40 degrees) I had the choice of 110 kph with no A/C, or 80 kph with A/C. My radiator is not very old, but it is not a very good quality core (not many fins per inch, has poor heat transfer abilities).

I have to drive to Adelaide on Sunday, that will give it another workout.

Either clean it via "Rod the one you have" .... or invest in a Bigger cored unit
Check your viscos is locking up properly also

My 93RRC will run in low range all day at 48c ambient aircon on or off.
Remember with aircon on the front fans are on all the time, so it shouldn't matter too much.
    Maybe check these also.
    So X2
    clean radiator
check viscous( but viscous problems are only <60Kmh)
    check aircon fans
Be careful and avoid overheating as V8s only need one overheat for head gasket or sleeve problems.

    Hot air

My 92 RR auto is bucking up with the heat.
When I have stopped after driving in this heat, and then restarted, my air cond. compressor does not want to reingage. It bangs away [I think this is the clutch engaging and then disengaging] until I get moving at a reason able pace. Is this back pressure in the AC system and if so can I do damage driving with the AC on until it settles down?
How do I prevent this from happening?

That is not the answer I am looking for.
Any mug can take their car to be serviced. What I want to know is what is happening?
The reason I go on this forum is for advice from other owners who may have experienced a similar problem. Dont offer the obvious Philip A. If you dont have an answer keep off the forum.

I just drove my 94 LSE Classic 100 highway kms and then did some stop start stuff followed by driving it another 100 highway kms. Ambient temp was low 40s and I had the a/c on as well. Not a problem. The temp gauge didn't move from its normal "16 minutes to..." position. This is what should happen - nothing. So if you're having problems then all is not well.

Your "friendly" reply must be related to the heat

Its summer, you get it, get it serviced before summer and you be fine as said above and don't hammer the regulars.

You maintain and all be fine just like every other car on the road.
If you can do yourself or by 3rd party, who cares but get it serviced, that is the advice.

You want more? become a mechanic.
