I can't say I've had a problem with the headlight switch on my RR with standard lights. When fitting relays, the only problem you have is that each headlight has it's own circuit so you need to fit a 2 relays to each side unless you link both headlights together.

Just go for a 35W 4300K HID kit instead .

I did it on my old 77 and then transferred the loom to my 93 with 120/100 bubs and IPF 7inch headlights. The light is brilliant and I do not need spots.

You can buy the looms from Piranha or LR specialists for "plug and Play" as they have their own headlight sockets
Otherwise you can make them yourself easily, but for reversability you would need new headlight bulb sockets.
You just trigger the relays with a blade connector in the old headlight plugs and connect the relays directly to the battery.

I always fit two double relays to headlights, one each side for each beam. This way you only lose one beam if a relay quits.

pretty easily done really. Just take the high and low beam wires from the back of the headlights to the switching connection on a relay and then from the relay back to the low and high beam on your headlights. Then run a power cable from the battery to the relay and bobs ya uncle.

When you turn on the low beam, it will activate the relay and then draw power directly from the battery, thru the relay and directly to the headlight. This means that power to the headlights isnt running through the dash switch.

You can get relays with double poles so you can run a wire from one relay to both headlight, but you will need two relays - one for high beam and one for low beam.
