    A little help required.

Ok, got an 87 3.5 RRC that is having a hissy fit.

    Here are some details.

    ECU replaced,
    MAF replaced.
Throttle position switch checked and reset to correct position.
Plugs, leads, cap, rotor, and timing checked or replaced.
Fuel pump humms quietly, filters (air and fuel) replaced last year.
Vac advance replaced and is working fine.

Haven't tried checking the ign module on the side if the dizzy as yet. But if that was failing I would think it would let go very quickly.

Alternator light glows dim, but alternator checked by auto elec (output is good).

Runs sweet when cold, when it gets hot there is a totally different story. She misfires a little at revs and farts about at idle and takes a couple of seconds to get revs up. If I hold the revs up at about 1200 when stopped at the lights she pulls away fine then just misfires when cruising along.

So I can only think the heat has something to do with it. I have tried disconnecting the coolant temp sensor when cold, this reproduces the hot symptoms, but to a worse condition.

Does anyone in the ACT or surrounding districts, have a spare alternator, coolant tepmerature sensor or ign module laying around I can borrow/buy to fault find???

    Thanks

    Chris

    Gday Chris,
I would definitely check the ignition module, mine was doing similar things and the only way we could test the ignition module was swap it with someones who we knew was working and that fixed mine.
    Hope you get it sorted.

P.S I have also read somewhere on here about the Rangies having earth problems up on the firewall under the drivers side footwell, some thick Brown wires that corrode or something causing similar symptoms??

I'd say poor connection from altenator to battery. Might just be a bit dirty on the connection.

Mine had terrible problems due to this. It would start then stall after 20 secs of idling no matter how hard or soft i revved it. Missfired too. Something to do with the elec ignition module not getting the right voltage and cutting out.

Start by checking the earthing then look for big voltage drop. Use a multi meter and follow earth points back with a current load.
If no one near by has a modual I'm sure if you pay the postage one of us would lend you one
