    Question charge light question

well I am here to ask for help again.... The problem I got this time is only visible at night or on dusk/dawn. but became even more prominent on a recent little play up bush with the missus and kids in the car, i have a very slight glow to the charge light when the motor is at idle or just above it seems to go off when the motor is above 1300 rpm but as I was doing a lot of slow slow work and idling around to keep the missus quite, but as the engine bay got hotter the light seemed to get slightly brighter and stayed on till bout 1600 rpm, i am hoping it just brushes but some wisdom from you guys would be very helpful. and its a 88 RRC

Had the same problem 1990 RRC

it's basically a voltage feed drop / Starvation

Have a look at your firewall on the drivers side // between the brake booster & the motor ... There is a positive terminal post .... This feeds the main wire supply to inside your cabin & also is the main feed to your starter motor

Have a look above the brake pedal inside the cabin ... you will see 4? brown feed wires connected to the inside of the terminal post

Check the power supply voltage on the inside of cabin via a multimeter ... It will show voltage drop

Change the terminal post ... Easy job for a good "Auto sparky"

It can be resistance in either the positive circuit (as noted above) or in earths.
Run a jumper from the battery negative straight to the alternator body and see if it goes out.
If it does then it is a bad earth.

The fix is to clean all the connections between the battery and alternator.

thanks for both your answers, i have a mate that is a Volvo truck mechanic
and gets the same issue with the trucks so when I told him what was said he was straight onto it but didn't have time to look at it further so i am yet to fix the problem.
