    Wiring problem on 87 RRC

    Hi all,
I have almost finished the rewire on the Rangie and decided to give it a test. Almost everything is ok except:

When I put on the hazards, the indicator warning light in the binnacle works fine.
When I put on either left or right blinker, the indicator light in the binnacle does not work, but the actual indicators work fine.

As far as I can see from the wiring diagram, here is only 1 wire from the flasher unit to the binnacle warning light, so if it works with the hazards then it should also work with left/right indicator.

The only thing different at the moment is that the rear lights are not wired up yet.

I am wondering, is there a voltage sensor or something in the binnacle which stops the indicator warning light not working if a globe is blown or something like that? I would not have thought this to be the case but I cant work out any other reason why the binnacle light does not work.

I guess I am hoping someone else has had the same problem. I really dont want to have to pull the binnacle apart.

    thanks,

    Adam

Not sure about your model Rangie but in mine, the flasher can for the indicators is a four pin, not the standard 3 pin with one wire from the hazard can going to the flasher and then to the lamps?

Well I worked out the problem today....and there never was a problem.
The binnacle must have some sort of current sensing in it because when I hooked up a globe to the blinker wiring at the back the warning light on the dash worked fine.

This is a bit of a worry though. I plan to add LED lights at the back. Will this mean there will not be enough current flowing to make the warning light on the dash work?

    Walker,

I have fitted LEDs to my 86 RRC and needed to install a load resistor on each side in order to get them to flash at the correct speed. Was okay when using hazards, but when indicating one way or the other, the indicator sped up. All good now.

    Cheers

    Thanks Cameron.

Where would I get a load resistor from and is there any particular size you should get?

    Adam,

The link from McDisco is a supplier I have used before. I ended getting mine off flea bay and can't remember what the key stats were. I will see if I can find the link again and will post it.

    Cheers,
