93 rangie suspension woes
Hi there I'm new to this site. just wondering if anyone out there has had any experience with the air suspension? My car has been off the road for a while and I'm now trying to get it back on the road. From what I can remember the rear air-bags were leaking so I have purchased some replacements for it. The suspension buttons, only of which the lowest setting will light up, dont seem to do anything?
Can I reset the suspension myself or will it have to be done a Range Rover dealer?
Thankyou.

Gday mate. A bit elderly now, but RRC air suspended cars are the most comfortable - so don't go putting it on coils.
There's a wealth of info about this subject - Rover Renovations in US has info, cheap bits, etc. Airbagman has the bellows. There's a computer program available for free (but you'll need a harness to connect to your laptop) called EASunlock which will help with clearing faults, checking settings, etc.
Use the search engine with gusto, lad. You'll find just about all you need to know.
PS Get the RRC CD off Dave's Interesting Things - it's the full workshop and parts manuals - everything you require for the maintenance of your RRC.

Hi Splinter,
Where are you located? as we may be able to provide some localised help.
The EAS Software is available here, you should find the instructions on how to make the cable in one of the readme files:
SourceForge.net: Range Rover - EAS - Reset
Also check out
Range Rovers
The main page has heaps of information, plus if thats not enough there is always the forums there. All the people are really nice and helpful, and there is a dedicated, Range Rover Classic section. I initially built the cable for my P38 and installed the software on a IPAQ PDA, however I now have a faultmate.
There was also another guy on here who build the cable for his classic. If your a local give me a PM and I may be able to help.

P.S. Don't give in to the naysayers about Magic Carpet Air Suspension.

Stu, I'm situated in Drouin and commute to Dandenong daily, I'm pretty confident that I could make the loom myself if I had the information. I dont want to put coils back in as I agree that the ride was fantastic before I had dramas with it and taking it back to a dealer every time it goes into limp mode, I can understand why people would chuck the airbag system.
All help appreciated
thanks

Get the EAS sorted once and properly by someone [an independent LR workshop] who knows what they're doing and then sit back and enjoy the ride for years to come.

Some more info....
Splinter, if you want to get a hold of everything you need, check out TAW PARK 4X4 on UK eBay. Look for Classic Range Rover applications, not P38A, because the vehicle plugs are different.
Have you got a copy of the workshop manual from the vendor on this site? It will help lots !!!
I echo the references that Stu passed on - the septics have really got into the DIY solutions.
Who do you use for the resets? Morwell? If so, they don't really know. Perhaps talk to Greg at AMV (East Ringwood) or Glen at Rover Land (Ferntree Gully).

From what I understand and have read, is that the classic EAS is very sensitive to faults, and will drop to the bumpstops at the first sign of any fault. The P38 system was improved
to reduce this occuring. But however the systems are nearly identical. I wonder whether there is some way to retrofit the P38 EAS Ecu to a Classic???
I purchased everything I required for the cable from Jaycar, and used some 8 core flat cable I had lying around. I also had to make a null modem adapter. All instructions are on the alt4 site above.

I reftitted the EAS to my 94 classic RR after the previous owner had ripped it out in favour of coils. I have the EASunlock software on my laptop, as well as the cable for the classic. More to the point, I am 5km from Drouin. I'll PM you my phone number, you will be welcome to come and put your car in my shed and use the diagnostic/reset gear, I might be able to offer some limited knowledge based on my recent experience, but you will have to do everything yourself as I am recovering from spinal surgery thus unable to do much physically at present.
