In NSW they must be engineered. I my case I have convinced the engineer the Rangie runs the same set up as a 130". This gets around off set and tyre height issues a bit. Some will want to do a lane change test and a brake test with rear brakes working only wile the vehicle is loaded
Talk to an engineer 1st is my advice before you start. It may pass rego etc but may not be legal or insurable in a miss hap

I got mine engineered a few years ago when I did ute conversion.
I thought the ute conversion would cause the problems but it was the body lift they were worried about. The body has a 50mm lift and the springs are a tad longer. the biggest tyre they would allow was 31`s. Had to do the lane change test as well. This is in WA. I think there is a new national code that all the states are trying to enforce. Maximum of 2 " body lift after that you have to do the lane change. (up to 75mm combined spring / body lift) maximum 2" above standard tyre diameter.
Google VSB14 National code of practice.

When we have the last of the smaller details finished our Rangie will be getting checked over for a blue slip, the mechanic we use told most mods can be passed by him LEGALLY, if something ticks the wrong box then sadly we will have to get engineered.
We only went with a 2in body lift, a 4BD1 that we added a turbo to and replace the coils with air springs, as we used Rangie air springs the mechanic thinks we might be alright.
