Think i've made up my mind just want some opinions RE: Lift Options

I have a 94 RRC it has airbags and abs/tc, converted to coils before i bought it.

Currently i have 2" king coil, the rear are quite sagged, and poly'airs in the rear. I have maxitrax shocks which are leaking oil and not really doing the best job anymore and pretty much every bush is shagged. i would like about
    4" of lift roughly.

My plan so far is :

    - 2.5" LRA Bodylift - i have spoken to engineers and can get around the airbags easily, and i am in the process of making the abs sensor extensions so no problems there.

    - Run 2" coils, obviously new ones, retaining the poly'airs in the rear for the occasional towing, Any suggestions on coils? LRA have a large variety i see, i have a steel bullbar which soon will hopefully house a winch, steel rear bar which i am in the process of building a spare tyre carrier , i have drawers in the back, with the compressor and amps for the stereo also - am i best to get it weighed first with all the gear in it with a full tank of fuel before buying springs?

    - As for shocks i was thinking going with billsteins as well as the steering damper as from what i have read and been told these are quite superior in performance on and off road, i have been looking at the LRA long travel kit but i'm not sure it's will be worth it or not (anyoine have one that can comment?) i havnt been stuck bad before with my current setup, but it has been known to lift front wheels easily off-road.

    - I know with a 2" lift castor correction isnt nessacery, but i would like it to drive as close to possible as standard as i still do some highway driving so i was looking at goin down the slotted swivels track, and seing as thought i have bent trailing arms before, i have been looking at stronger aftermarket cranked rear arms and extended balljoint as from experience they flog out quite quickly even with a 2" lift. I've started to make extended swaybar links also for on-road duties.

    - Bushes, Stick to rubber? or is it okay to go with the urethane, it is a mixed debate at work (mechanic) polys give better performance/handling blah blah but rubber would be better for articulation- i've seen complete bush kits from the uk landed for about $180 in urethane.

and lastly i would probably stick on some LRA flares when money allows just for a bit of extra clearance and maybe bigger tyres next time ( i am only running 31 mt/r's atm.

Have i missed out on anything i may need to budget for, ie brake lines? does it sound like a good setup or if not, suggestions please to make it better?

I have LRA Orange in the back with air bags and a functioning ( I hope) hydromat. I have a Long ranger 140 Litre tank and tow a camper with about 60KG ball weight, plus fridge and groceries in back.

I also have Bilstien shocks all round

I find that this is a setup which gives as good a ride as you can expect ( not as good as stock but pretty good) with airbags and Bilstiens and carries the load well.

    A few points

My Bilstiens are apparently the last "comfort" settings ones sold and I had to pay to have my fronts revalved from sport to comfort. this I did on the recommendation of Graeme Cooper as he advised "sport" setting shocks could cause skipping on corrugations and also deteriorate the ride.

I am very happy with the current setup and the shocks have now done 30-40KK including some of the worst dirt in OZ (Mitchell falls, Plenty, Tanami, Oodnadatta, Merty Merty, Savannah ). They are still perfect AFAIK.

Re the airbags. I did not fit the 2" spacers and my airbags just touch with no load in the car. I drove the car with the spacers and it was abomidable so I took em out .
IMHO the airbags are an AID and should not be the primary spring source.

Re the Front. I have LRA "green" springs which give 1.5inch lift and leave some castor. I have had Land Rover "green" in the past ie RRC 92 rears but they affected the steering too much . Remember when you load the back , the front goes up.

I believe my setup is ideal for a touring car. I run BFG 245.75x16s.

use super pro poly bushes, nice and soft. LRA have a good choice of springs, speak to Andrew Richmond and tell him what you have as in bars, batteries (dual), winch etc..and he can match up your springs. Longer shocks is a good idea, you could always go the GQ patrol/80 Series option as they are longer than standard rangie Bilstiens but not as expensive as the long travel Bilstiens, but you will need to make a pin to eye converter for the rears (very easy, can get the bits from supercheap in the trailer section)and space the front turrets up 25mm.
    Enjoy
