Manual Gearbox for 1984 Range Rover Classic?
I have currently got an 1984 Automatic Range Rover Classic and I want to convert it from automatic to a manual gearbox.
I have found an 1991 Land Rover Defender with a 5 speed manual gearbox and transmission, would that work and/or fit in my 1984 Range Rover?
If not where would I get a manual gearbox for this model of Range Rover?

That might just work - the defining bit is the position of the gearstick. look under your carpet on the tunnel and see if there are cutouts (or impressions) for a gearstick hole forward of the auto lever. If there are, measure from there to the back of the engine and compare it with the defender set up. (There are differences in the location of the gearstick on a defender and Disco/ later RR you see) If that doesn't fit, then use a gearbox/TC from a v8 Disco (90's) for a 5 speed or earlier RR for the 4 speed. They all bolt up reasonably the same. Google LT95 for a 4 speed and LT77, R380 for the 5 speed.

thanks for the reply.
sorry, I got mixed up (I always get the discovery and the defender mixed up), It was an 1991 Land Rover Discovery, It had a V8 in it so I guess it is the right model, I found it in the wrecker yard, it had hit something, it looks intact, the engine seemed fine, just the owner couldn't be bothered repairing it. I just want to make sure it it would work, before I get the gearbox and/or transmission out of it.

If that 84 has a 3 speed auto then it'll also have a higher ratio transfer than most (1.003:1 high range).
If your intended engine can't push this gearing, there will probably be plenty of larger diesel owners who can take it off your hands.

My father has just finished putting an LT95 into his 84 Classic to replace the 3-speed auto. The high/low range selector comes out in a different place, so some modification to the opening in the trans tunnel was required. The handbrake also comes out in a different place so check if the reangoe and disco handbrake locations look similar. If the transfer case stays in the same place when changing to a 5-speed, the only problem would be where the gear stick comes out.
