What did I do on my Perentie today.

I moved it from the Chook Shed Annex (CSA) to the Chook Shed and started disassembling it. At least that is what I did to 49-353. So far the grill radiator and RHS front guard are off the chassis.

The radiator and mountings have been moved to Ikea the 6x6 Defender and hopefully the engine will be down there this weekend. Then I started trying to remove the outer guard panel but got stuck with two bolts over the apex of the wheel arch when I ran out of daylight.

Tomorrow it will be the rest of the outer guard bolts and the LHS mudguard. Then onto the seatbox and tub.

49-353 has already donated a few parts to 48-852 like the rear convoy lamps and will be donating more to Ikea for the 4BD1 conversion.

Don't worry, 49-353 will be reborn again after a nut and bolt restoration by one of the best Perentie rebuilders in Sydney.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

Had to mow the lawns in the morning so only had the arvo on 49-353.

LHS mudguard is off as are the doors and the outer guard from the RHS for 48-852. Salvaged a couple of other parts for another enthusiast so 353 is helping out lots of others.

The engine is now ready to lift out but didn't want to do it by myself.

Does anyone else have problems with their fuel gauge jumping about, 48-852 was reading low so went to put fuel in but it only took about $10 and was overflowing. So have also taken the fuel tank unit out of 353.

While fuel gauge senders and the gauges themselves are occasionally faulty, far more common are wiring problems, usually, although not always, the earthing of either the sender or the instruments. My 2a has a dodgy tank changeover switch that needs exercise sometimes to get the gauge to work on the LH tank.

Fitted new Lovells springs in the rear and some 2nd hand shocks, They added say 10mm from the old sagged out ones

Front gets done tomorrow, couldn't find a tool shop open to sell me a chain wrench.

Good fun working on the thing, All the bolts came out like new

First engine oil & filter change today. A little past due.

She gave - and took - about 6 litres. Less than I expected.

What's the deal with the spin on filter mounting upside down? Other than making the change over very messy?

Lucky the filter mount, diff, prop shaft and tie rod thing (?) caught most of it. Otherwise the old newspaper I put on the driveway under the oil catcher pan might have gotten soiled.

Still, nothing half a can of degreaser couldn't fix.

I thought 49-353 was a bit heavy so I put it on a diet.

Maybe I missed it but what's your plan with these vehicles? Your making "ikea the defender 6x6"?

No I have an ex-UK civilian Defender 6x6 that was disassembled for restoration but before the importer could re-build it he died. I purchased it as a flat pack, hence the name Ikea.

It was a 3.5 litre carby V8 but I decided to go 4BD1-T so 48-353 is the donor of the non turbo engine.

A friend has another Perentie which suffered front end damage and has a bent chassis. The undamaged body of that vehicle will receive the chassis and ID from 49-353 and knowing the builder will be as good or better than when it rolled out the gate of the JRA factory at Moorebank.

The other number will be lost, we can't save them all.

So far 49-353 has donated parts to 3 other Perenties and my Defender, it will likely donate more bits to other Perentie before it leaves my hands.

BTW: I also have a running and registered Perentie FFR 48-852.
