SupporterI got in my perentie the other night to drive home from work and the gearstick became really loose and floppy and couldn't change gears. Took the rubber cover off thinking the the retaining plate on top must be loose but it wasn't- after unbolting the plate and removing gearstick i noticed the small retaining screw on the side of the top housing wasn't screwed in so it locks into the groove in the ball part of gearstick shaft. I also noticed the base of the shaft is a flat plate unlike in the county which has a ball end on the bottom of the shaft.
As you have found out the screw holds the gearstick in position. All "short throw" LT95 boxes have the flat on the end of the gearstick and the earlier "long throw" boxes as fitted to RR's had different selectors and the ball on the end of the stick.
Cheers......Brian
