I will be interested to see how long $2 ebay LEDs last.

They do look pretty bright, are they not too bright? Would they blind oncoming traffic?

Could you please link to the ones you purchased?

Also, do they run at cooler temp than std bulb?

I'm aware some LED sets run hot due to the voltage converter.

    Many thanks.

ok so its not ebay but banggood, which is a wholesaler a lot of people on ebay dropship through.

    12V 1W High Power LED Car Light Bulb White+Warm White - AU$2.65

$2.65 AUD, posted to your door from Hong Kong, in 7-10 wdays.

Ive used ebay/chinese leds like this on every car in the past 5+ years and basically.. if they survive the fitting of the globe (manhandling) they are good for ever haha.

Older styles were much weaker and could break when 'twisting' the bayonet into it. Not a problem with these newer ones, they are greattttttt

Also on the too bright note, camera lens's do enhance lighting effects - take a look at the original 'dim' one and see how bright it looks in the pic compared to your eyes. The LEDs are definately brighter, but not going to dazzle anyone. On the 'bright' side, I can drive up my narrow driveway without headlights haha.

As for reversing, well.. those 1w ones probably wont cut it.. twin 7W crees? yes please. Also wiring in a 10W cree wide angle floodlamp for even more reversing lumens but thats not done yet ;-) will post pics when they arrive?

(the link/url i posted seems to be auto turning into an ebay advertisement for a different thing.. goto ebay, search for item 231283497987 for reversing lights, $2.56 AUD each side (so $5.12 total) posted to your door, 7-10 wdays)

Also.. heat is a non issue. The only issue is newer cars (like 2006 range rover vogues...) will actually think the bulbs blown due to the extremely low current draw and as such, the dash will say 'light blown' AND cut power to the socket! Intelligent motoring at its finest..

You can put a resistor in the wire to solve this. Bundalene has a 130 build thread with pics...

Would they work in the indicators also? Or are they too bright for the orange diffusers?

I would think that they'd be fine. That said, I used amber LEDs on the front of my Defender (these ones). I used these for the parkers. The CREE replacements are excellent and don't draw too much attention as they look like normal bulbs.

You could use CREEs to replace all bulbs on a Perentie without changing the housings (and I plan to):
    T-10 - here, side indicators
BA-15S - here, indicators and reverse lights
    BA-15D - here, brake lights

I wrote a thread on changing the indicators to LEDs with the various pitfalls associated with it here. With most LED replacements the beam spread is not right for conventional bulb housings, which makes them either look funny or not work well. Theses CREEs emit uniform light all around just like an incandescent bulb though so I have no qualms using them. That said, there's the old chestnut of legality.

Thanks a lot for that info. Do those brake lights replace the dual filament tail/brake standard ones, how do they work?

The Perenties have trailer lights on the back so will have to check what lamps they take.

Yes, they replace the dual filament bulbs. They have the same dual contacts on the base which regulate different levels of current flow through the emitters and thereby their light output.

The bulbs quoted are for the Perentie (Hella 2401) light fitting. The same bulbs as a normal Defender though.

Interesting, I was just trying to find a led direct replacement for the Hella 2401 and can only find jumbo combo lights that are half a meter long.

Obviously the 73mm lamps have a direct replacement, but what about the perentie trailer lights?
