Go for it mate.......don't worry about all these rivet counters.
Plenty of defenders have been have had re-engine swaps, you are just doing the opposite to what others have done.....
I reckon you'd be able to find someone with a Defender who'd do a swap for your Perentie.
Think of all the advantages you'd have, air con, wind up windows, sound insulation, nice paint, etc.
The other bloke would get an old green car, sliding windows, vibrating old engine, etc.
I tell you what, being the nice bloke that I am, I'll do a swap with you. I can even throw in a P38A as a daily driver.

Another thing you should think of is resale value.
I would suggest what you are proposing would be so undesirable, the value of the vehicle after the conversion would be little more than scrap.
